Make sure its 150% prepared for track, nothing worse for you and other people on track if someone doesn't put the effort into preparing their car properly and things go tits up. Have a look at similar sort of cars which you know do a bit track work and the set up they are running... then try to spec your car to that level IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

give it a lap to warm up proper before you cain the fook out of it

and give it a good slow lap to cool down before you stop too, especially if its a turbo car!

brakes are the most important thing
and make sure your tyres aint over inflated (they will need to be slightly softer than you use on the road,
else it will feel like you are driving on a wet track after a couple of laps!

if its an old ford. the best thing you can do is,

being an RST it will get hot as fook on track, so keep an eye on temps too.

take it slow to start ... get a feel for your car and a feel for the track ..
nothing worse than fallingoff on the second corner trying to overtake that car in front...
brakes take a hammering.. make sure yours are up to it .. i always had a spare set of pads just incase...
check all levels fuel oil and water ...
work up speed after a few laps .. most important of all .. enjoy it ...

Don't lift mid corner lol I ended up spinning entering too fast and lifting lol got to love fwd !

Seriously though I would get some sort of gauge to keep an eye On water temps mainly mine got hot on track due to melting water pipe and with no gauge had no warning now have secs monitor fitted and would be happy to go on again

Tyre pressure, wheel nut torque, oil, water, good spanner check under side is a few things we do with the track cars

Ps don't go out all guns blazing build your self up IMO it's worth having a couple if sessions one to go out have some fun and learn your way round when to brake etc it's very good to find someone in a slower car who knows the place and drives well and just follow them you will soon get te lines

Then have a session to work up some speed and get quicker

You'd better use another car then!, but expect to get some stone chips and rubber marks in the paint etc, and just hope you dont go off or taken off

Get some decent brake pads and fliud, check oils and water levels tyre pressures and wheel nuts are tight.

Just go and enjoy it and dont drive stupid for the 1st couple of sessions until youre used to it.

I would also sack off the 17" wheels and run a smaller wheel and sticky tyre if possible..

Cheers,

its like getting a sun tan - too much too soon and you might get burnt

my mate had a hire bike at brands and overtook me on a corner, his Ł500 deposit was lost as the bike slid down the track. I didnt mind spending Ł500 on new farings for my bike if i fell, but glad i didnt

you know your limits, enjoy the day, watch the others getting to close and let them pass, i doubt there is a medal at the end of day, but to walk away with a smile will make it a worthwhile day

considering FF is about 9 months away, the best thing you could do would be trackdays to get your sh*t together.Loads of quite non-pressure trackdays on between now and then.A couple of easy relaxed trackdays would get you used to driving on track, learning to watch your rear view mirror, get used to driving on the racing line, plus all the weak points of youre RST,of which there are many.FF tends to have experienced drivers, plus idiots who aint ever done a trackday, those trackdays under youre belt will prepare you for both types of drivers you will encounter in 2011.
