I had a shot of a "400" spec FRS mk2 tonight
Wow is all i can say!!
My mate Greg has had the car since a year past June. The modding started immediately with a full mongoose and decat which livened the car up a little.
This progressed with a bluefin map and then appeared a new front mount intercooler(i forget which). Bluefin released a "stage 2" map which he downloaded.
I only got my first spin in the stage 2 350 ish bhp spec last week and was VERY impressed. Still no drama under power and the front wheels coped and put it down ok.
Anyway last week he went to JW Racing who specialise in flash handsets coming from volvo tuning in Sweden. Along with the new map he added bigger injectors and a mountune airbox to give a guesstimate 395 bhp. Apparently a £500 carbon airbox would see 400 bhp but fuck that

Tonight he came round and took me out. FUCKING HELL it's really really good. Still copes ok with little wheelspin if you feather 2nd a little. Red line is now 7100 and is still pulling near 370 bhp at that. It hardly drops off. The instant pull when you change gear is immense with no lag. Even in 5th gear it's pulling like it did in 3rd.
I had a little drive myself and it's fucking awesome. I dare any FWD hater to get in a car at that spec and try saying it's too much power for fwd.
I want one!

PS the car is MILES better on this map. Makes the bluefin look and feel cheap and nasty. The off boost drivability is spot on. At idle it has less of a gurgle and lumpy idle. It's as if this is the real deal map and everything has been ironed out so it's not just boost and fuel happy!

Chop I've been in my mates 380bhp one in the wet and the grip from it is immense. A load of us went to rolling road in Wishaw and had a few wee races on the road up. We were doing WELL over 170 and still pulling hard

£2.5k maybe all in?
HATER ALERT

Many people think the Focus RS is a 170mph+ car. People who have reviewed it and taken it to top speed said the needle was off the meter and still pulling so i wouldn't doubt it can hit 170.
+ Being in one on a regular basis and judging off how it goes, especially in 3rd and above, I wouldn't be surprised.

These cars seem do do poor 1/4 times due to being limited in 1st an 2nd
What times are they setting without the limitations?
Sounds quick but is it actually quick?
PS im not a hater I ve just heard a lot or people say they are shite on the quarter

That's the only bitch thing. You can feel when the full amount of torque is available when you're in 3rd. 1st and 2nd really does throw you off. In the first 2 gears the power is really smooth and then 3rd, you really feel it in the gut. Character changes for sure.
Greg says there's one other guy in Scotland running this map and he did a 13.1 at crail on sun. Crail surface is WANK so i think thats ok. 126 terminal guess was mentioned.
PS everyone STFU about 170 mph. Im pretty sure Paul would've meant on the clock and didnt have his datron timing gear out
Plenty folk bang on abou 170 on the clock in their cossie when limiter in 5th is about 157 genuine.

Do any of the maps have the ability to override the torque limiter in 1st and 2nd? Does it still manage to spin up quite a bit in the first two gears then? Could you use a standalone boost controller for the boost? Just wondering...
Chop, lag is not bad, being a doubting Thomas i wasn't sure, i knew it wouldn't be as bad as a cossie as it has a bigger engine, but i wasn't sure if it would be ok, we got the big turbo on before last Christmas, first drive & i was impressed, tiny bit more lag but pulls hard to the limiter.
is your mate 'Scottish Greg' on the forums? theres another Greg with a green one (Maxwell on the forums) i was told him & Simon @ Sitech were having a good hack at Knockhill

Ah never thought of the bigger capacity helping. As it is it pulls hard to limiter so more must be insane!
"Scottish Greg" is my pal. He has black wheels with a green strip round inside of rim and its lowered. STUNNING.
Yeah thats all very well but not everyone has 7k revs to play with. I cant actually remember the standard limiter...6.5 or 6.7k?
I remember this from brunters when cars were hitting 157.
as people seem to say, you cant get it all down in first and second which is a shame. Guess that IS the limit of FWD in such a heavy car. Would piss me off not being able to achieve its full potential in 1st/2nd without it wheelspinning, but then i prefer fast accelerating to 60 nimble cars. Im sure with decent tyres on a track it would be fine though.

Greg took me out first and i asked him to gun in 2nd and you could see the traction light come on. When i drove it i gave it maybe 3/4 throttle to 4k and floored it there and had NO spin or traction light or even torque steer. I didnt waste my time trying anythign in someone else's car in 1st.

Other than being a nice looking every day car i still find them boring and well under powered in std trim...
Once someone devolopes a geniune solid 500 hp one then i might be interested because imo thats how much power it needs to be exciting..

I think thats a little unfair. At 500 bhp it would be blisteringly quick in a straight line and punch well above its weight.
As standard i agree they are slowish. My stg1 dreamscienced mk1 focus would beat one easy. The bluefin stg2 was much betetr and felt quick.
This 400 spec is more than quick enough for most people.
It's easy to be spoiled into thinking cars need to be quicker due to what you're used to.
I try to step back from that. I really feared for the life of my evo while in it

what power spec was your evo???
Iv driven a 580 hp one we did a while back 2.3 stroker and that car was mental on the road!!!
On the road i really couldnt see anything beat it!!!!still didnt like it though and would never have one...felt like it was going to blow any minute..even worse than a yb..lol

My evo is a "380" spec. Standard issue bigger fuel pump and a decent map with a proper exhaust and decat. It's very fast and very capable. Could make betetr cars look very silly with it's traction from low down. Even when damp. You can accelerate and not have to hang on for dear life. In my 400 bhp cossie im always shitting it. Tbh im not sure i'll ever need my 3dr again and thats sad
I'd absolutely love a shot of a big spec evo just to see how mental it is.
i went out in simon from sitech mk2 frs with the js450 conversion on it and he got nos on his as well and it was amazing how well it puts the power down, never been in a fwd car that pulls the way it does awesome cars.
