Default RSOC + Piracy

I know there were a couple of guys selling a knock off version of superchips bluefin on RSOC. They were doing it for a few years and now it seems it has all back fired and superchips want blood.

Anyone know anymore?

That's it they called it "tuna"

They had a WDS Computer aswell so could make sure the car had the AE map installed at the same time.

Think you thread title is slightly misleading!

As they are registered members on here should your ALLEGED title not also be 'Passion Ford + Piracy'.

Unless you know the facts don't bother posting libellous threads.

Well well well they're home was the RSOC 1 at least was a Moderator, RSOC knew the score but chose to turn a blind eye to there illegal actions.

Also RSOC are quickly deleting posts or threads to cover there arses.

I know more than you think little man

Nice avatar. I like this thread, PF used to be a place where you could get away with talking about the stuff that RSOC were being pissy about.... wonder if its still the same these days?!

Haha, Chop I know its Bluefin, I meant that I thought people preferred the tuna to the Bluefin 'map' that comes with the handset... och, ok... I'll take one of these.

Cheers,
Grant

There is a massive amount of software piracy in this industry - But proving your case is likely to be a very expensive business.

That is true but at the same time this is much smaller scale and easier to attack.

I've also been told Superchips also want to pursue the people that have there knock off map on there cars, where and how do these people stand?

so what is the problem?

i fail to understand how copying a map is theft in any way shape or form

unless you are referring to the likes of microsoft (for example) who will sell you a copy of office and you go and get a pirated version, don't you still need to have a code etc for it and then you get regular fuck ups on the computer if you don't put it in?

and you've got to have a legit copy in case you get caught out by the internet police?

a maps a map, how do you prove its anything but?

and what happens to peeps who have bought cars with these dodgy maps on them? are they going to be chased by fishermen like the chap from i know what you did last summer?

it's just a basic map without any real time mapping yes?

All posts have been deleated over on RSOC BB on that subject

Last night was where the mud slinging was.

On a lighter note Superchips have lowered the price of the BF for the focus to Ł240 and will also upgrade present owners with handsets with the latest mapping
But that has also been deleated as well

ukmayhem ...Hmmmmmmmmm i remember that name

Even though it is a Generic map it has still be created by Superchips and sold under license ( ie you only get 1 life )

A message from Superchips from RSOC

Dear Focus RS Mk1 owners,

It has come to our attention that many of you are using illegal copies of our Superchips remap (2003). This is more commonly known as AE+Tuna. We can see from the forum that you are pleased with this remap, and you should be, as we have spent many years perfecting our mapping for these modifications.

Bluefin has changed many times over the last seven years, in terms of both its hardware and software. The latest version eliminates any issues associated with the AF calibration in the Focus RS Mk1, it is suitable for higher boost levels and it includes the de-cat option.

We are pleased to offer a Bluefin for the Ford Focus Mk1 RS at the special price of Ł239 (instead of Ł399) plus Ł7 carriage, to forum members who currently have a remap installed but would like to have a Bluefin for this application, or indeed any prospective customer who is wishing to purchase a Bluefin for the Focus RS Mk1.

i think i read somewhere that everyone with Tuna has the same ECU VIN number, not sure how that will effect anything but i guess one way for Superchips to find out which cars have it on..........

Seems like a very fair offer from Superchips to me!

The intrinsic problem with copying maps is that the map it's based on is the intellectual property of Ford, so I would presume (I don't know for sure) that you can't get legal on someone's ass if they've stolen your map which is, in a roundabout way stolen from Ford?

Which is my point. It's probably why piracy (between tuners too) is so rife with nothing being done about it. I'm sure someone more knowledgable can put me right but it must be a big legal grey area.

Exactly!

The starting point for the superchips map is stealing the ford one!

I should think a court case is the last thing any tuner ripping off and altering manufacturer software wants!
