Default Temp Gauge gone limp!!

hi guys,
i have a 2.0L blacktop Zetec in my Sapphire and was out tonight in the nice wet weather drifting and doing the odd donut when the temp gauge dropped. i let the engine cool and turned off the ignition and restarted and the temp gauge moved a small bit but nothing much. any ideas on what the problem would be? maybe melted the wire from the sensor to the gauge? or could/would i have blown a fuse?? its dark and pissing with rain at the minute so cant see under the bonnet very well..

any help much appreciated.
cheers
Decy
