Default long studdeded bolts help please

hi guys,my mates in the process of stripping down my engine(sapphire cossie)but he can't get the cylinder head off,he's took the 4 cross type thread bolts off each corner but he can't get the other 6 out of the middle, think there the long studded bolts(can't get a socket to fit down the hole to get to the bolts, tried loads, think its an 18 or 19 mill)had 2 mates look at it who are both mechanics and they said they will have to grind down a socket to fit, surely there's one which will fit??how the fook did they go in in the 1st place ??

any one in the know?????at a standstill at the minute

from the sound of it the only answer would be a thin walled socket. i know snap-on do em, got a set in my cabinet at work and they get me out of many tight situations!

sorry i know thats not much help but seems there isn't going to be too many ways around it.
