Default Turbo randomly cutting out?

My mates just limped his Cossy home after his turbo is randomly cutting out.

It try's to boost then just cut's off boost as if it's over boosting and won't go over 4000rpm.

Then the next moment it's fine for a short while. It has started smoking a little more than normal.

I thought if a turbo went it would pretty much just go bang and that would be it?

I:E it would work or not...

Any ideas anyone?

penny ?? you mean the wastegate itself ??

I thought actuator straight away as he has wound the boost up a bit a few weeks back.

the waste gate is sealed by a "penny" (common name)

look here

if the turbo is working normally to a certain boost pressure then i'd hazard a guess its a actuator problem, e.g split diaphram in the actuator. but difficult to say without seeing it

Its all fixed - one of the boost lines (skinny black ones running onto slam panel area) had come adrift on the turbo - pushed back on and now ok.

The Thermostat that was fitted was causing the overtemp concerns and when I checked the old one it was an 82degree already and on the way home the temps were very high.

Also had alot of air in the system still as when got back to Andrews found alot of bubbling in the coolant - have bled system again after chaning thermostat and is spot on now.

Catch you in abit mate
