Nothing wrong with the genuine ford shells, going ACL or GC myself, as to HG depends on what power you are chasing, but my 1st choice would be a fibrous gasket such as YB0611.

theyre just not good at staying in one bit to be honest, a few years back there was a patch where the gen wrc gaskets dried up, five engines were done with cometic and all came back for a wrc upgrade

the bastos car you may know, escort cosworth track car had a cometic, he had problems and two engines just on the dyno by another tuner just had problems, so from what i see with my own eyes they are shite

ah now, you may be fine, these engines were 440 bhp upwards so a bit more strain over your engine, yours may be still good

ive heard people run them before just not on a big spec build with much success

OE Ford shells were made by Vandervell Chris, they're a really good quality bearing. Put it this way, imo they are well matched to the quality of the oe crank and rods

Iv used acl bearings on loads of big power ybs including my own..i like the way you can order them in many different sizes after plaster gauging them..
Also used cometic hg s on many big power engines with no probs although about 5 years ago there was a few that went wrong...
But now with the price of the wrc hg not being so bad theres no point i n using anything else..5 years or so back a cometic was like Ł100 and wrc Ł275 so a lot of difference but now wrc is only Ł125 so why use a cometic at Ł90???

cheers danny

Cheers for the info -

Danny do you supply the WRC gasket for Ł125??

Also seen Matt Lewis is knocking the bearing kit's out at Ł150 so if they are what the tuners would use then thats good enough for me

I listen to the person I use, with his 54 years experience including building engines made/forged bit by bit from the ground up, has his own dynos, etc all the machine facilites you could ever think of, builds many many succesful engines, last year one costing over Ł100,000, had many one off components, was some historic engine, for someone richer than me!!
Plenty of norweigan chaps running 500+ on group a, they seal better due to thier fibrous nature on non perfect surfaces, ie where block has not been skimmed.

J1mbo i have heard that before but was never sure if they actually lasted the duration of a season or they were being replaced on a regular basis - i have all the touring car vids and have seen them pull in a few times steaming there arse's off

As stated above for the cost of a WRC one these days and a proven product then i'll buy one of these.
