MP AUTBODIES Puma Rally car
Well, much to the disgust of FRP owners, i had been knocking about with a mate on the BRC and i fancied the challenge of a rally car, so i did this to my frp. Basically got the bug after a weeks driver training in sweden
Here's a rough idea of what me and my wallet have been through in the last few months.
New shell

Custom cages roll cage

Ridding the weight

Started to gather a few little bits to get the welding underway

Look at the fabricators Tig welding

Obviously whilst the engien was out took time to rebuild it.

Car came back

New dampers, although cheapey GHA Gaz damperrs, they can be replaced easily if i break them

Oh look, a tickford lash up - nice standard qtr panels inside, they have to go!!

fibreglassed inner wing area so no stones can dirty my clean engine

How low can you go

More fibreglass to keep stones away

Some clean paint

Nice seat hieght

Heat proofing bulkhead

Trial fitting roller bearing concentric top mounts

Just some stone chip to seal in edges

Damper trials - all be it wrong springs (too soft for longer puma arms)

Getting there with 1 month to rs combe!!!!

my lifeline of fresh oxygen to the cabin

It's better when other people do the work

New brake setup, front and back split, not cross corners. Means can bias off rear.

Modified steering location

Foot plate

inside

spending my evenings working the springs out

meant having to have these made

Then treated myself to some plates

Then, we were getting ready to take my cousin to his prom the day before rs combe...and well, he is still learning

And then, rs combe is upon us.

Yeah those swedes can drive! went out to Swedish Rally in 2008 and met up with my swedish rally mate who is in the FST over there, when we watched them rally further north then the WRC there was a few schools there for ice and snow driving all had BMWs sliding it up the mountains lol
My mate had to retire from that round as he was having gearbox problems so he took us round these roads in a rental BMW, that was scary but fun lol
Pat Flynn? does the 205 Challenge doesnt he? met him briefly at Wales Rally GB 2007 when Robert Reid came over to chat to my mate whos like a brother to Adam Gould as Adam was under Reids wing at the time, IIRC Pat's son is a very good driver in the autograss and was i think 13-14 at the time i met pat

started stripping down the suspension today. I'm pleased to report, no more damage has been done
always a result.
I'm currently hunting round for a duratec fiesta st engine...has anyone put one of these into a fiesta/puma?

harry its been done a few times in mk4/5 shells now. look on UK fiesta network for a car by AdamB as he done a good job making sure it was mounted lowish and with the correct driveshaft angles etc.
custom mounts obviously!!!
custom mounts obviously!!!
yea, i'm sure i can manage it myself. I want it sitting exactly the same place as the current engine, as it's handling so well, i want the duratec to sit just right
Smashed inner cv joint as well today

Saw this at Combe, looked good.
Trying to convince my missus to get the arches for her Puma as it's being stripped and caged eventually, but she isn't having it

got my bandwidth back
ive sorted some gearboxes out. SO now the new gearbox will be:
FRP 1st + 2nd gear for the fact that they are shot peened. Going to have 3rd, 4th and 5th from a standard 1.7, and 1.25 final drive and shaft. Also going to use a viscous LSD for the time being to see how we get on. That will give us 20mph difference between each gear. Need a 5th gear puller though.
I've also arranged remapping for 8000rpm and derestricted the torque, and generally had a bit of a tune up.
The suspension is also at quick motorsport at the moment, trying to arrange some proper roller bearings for the top mounts, so they wont need changing all the time.
Our preperation switching towards getting her ready for the snow over the winter, maybe abit of gravel also if we can arrange a sump guard.

I was wondering why you hadn't got a thread up Harry. Oh dear, Quick Motorsport... ŁŁŁŁ
We'll have to re work my srping rates etc at some point. I still think my rear springs are a touch soft TBH.

yea, need to find out whats on there really...might be your dampers though.
tyres are 15"

Could be the dampers, Harry. Although I was told they were freshly rebuilt, seals look good and they don't leak. Running 180LB, 8 inch rear springs and on rough roads they just seemed to make the rear end "light". I'll have to let you drive it and see what you make of it.
could be that your dampers need revalving, but if springs were designed to have a diff on the same beam, it could be they were desgined for a bit more weight rear end. You may need some helper springs maybe to help it get the droop back. need to try it running really.
Tried slowing the rebound down?
It might be worth you signing up with the british rally forum (if you haven't done already), its the best place to find out about rallies and regs etc.
