Default Speed test app on the iphone

I just wondered something, when i do a speed test it tells me the speed of my wifi which tells me spot on, now when i did it on my 3G connection it came out at 1.48mbps download and 0.24 mbps upload, thats more than my home broadband?

Is that right? i didnt think 3G was THAT fast?

Today's 3G systems can in practice offer up to 14.0 Mbit/s (1.75 MB/s) on the downlink and 5.8 Mbit/s (0.725 MB/s) on the uplink.
so yes a totally reasonable outcome

Oh right, so you can get up to 14mbps download and 5.8mbps upload, why is mine so low then? Could it be my location/ signal strength

yes correct, 3g is a very directional wave length unlike 2g so the slightest movement and the transmitter can lose focus

i think in the UK we cant get the 14.0 but only can get 7.2 max

due to the technology being used in the uk

Also depends on how many others are using it at the same time.

Watching 1 youtube vid is the equivalent of 500,000 text messages!!!!

I work for O2
