Hello everyone, I'm currently thinking of building a ZVH or a Zetec Turbo for my Series 2 Escort RS turbo. Personally what would be the easiest conversion and what will be needed exactly for each.
I have a 2.0 silvertop zetec lump in my garage that came out of my old mondeo but just want to gather info about what is needed and what will need to be done to get some good power
Please could people help me, I will be most appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks

This is going to be another repeat thread as this is asked so often on these forums. I pressume you are on mfi? if so then I would say full zetec, it will cost slightly more (as only pounds more not hundred and hundreds) but the results will outweigh this. I have just finished building an all steel forged zvh but if I knew when I started what I know now I would of gone full zetec. They are more reliable, easier for parts and drive much better.
The main mod is the valve springs, then all you got to do is choose your inlet, exhaust and management. I small bit of welding/cutting will be required to the front chassis rail but nothing too drastic. Typical prices I think:
Valve springs - £220
Inlet manifold - £300
Exhaust manifold - £350
Management £350 + depending on which you go for
Pistons & rods package £800 (pec forged and h-section)
These are the basics I think and with standard cams you should be looking at an easy 250bhp without breaking a sweat depending on which turbo you use etc
Im not clued up on these at all but there are loads on here who have done this conversion with daft results.

& yes still mfi mate, but I don't want to spend shit loads on building a full zetec turbo but want a good solid engine for a good price if you know what I mean, the bits I'm abit confused about is what management to run and all the little bits I would need to change to run It in my series 2. Hope I'm making sense lol
what raj has said is true, could be done for less though.
however there are a few things to consider really, management is one, i'm using megasquirt 2 and that will set you back around £350+a laptop, wideband and loom, so nearer to £650-700 then, but no costs in tuning from then on.
then there is injector to consider, some 630cc siemens dekas will see big potential and not so expensive from the states (mine were about £200 including customs charges
)
turbo is something to consider too, either a 4wd cossie t3 or a T34 would instantly spring to mind unless you can get hold of a GT30 cheap enough.
forged pistons and H section rods are a must in my opinion, anywhere from £800-1000, but well worth it in the long run.
inlet could be an ali zetec one, or a custom made plenum wouldn't be that expensive circa £300.
you could tap the zetec head for an ERST manifold to save some cash or a tubular could be made from £250+
uprated valve springs are a must for anything over psi of boost and standard cams will be plenty good enough for 300bhp+
i have a 1.8 zvh and that's using early skimmed pistons, although rings have started to go now and i'm planning my 2.0 forged full zetec.
a zvh is good enough, but it has a big torque surge and will wreck an ERST box easily on 23psi of boost lol!
zetec is much smoother in power delivery and has more tuning potential, i've heard of 400bhp zvh's, but 522bhp+ zetec turbo's, plus they're better on fuel and you can tinker with valve timing to benefit you more too.
