Default CAT C question.... VIC HELP!

Hi all!

Ive a LTI London taxi that i rent out, it was hit on side (wing and door) which was dead light but because its 10 years old they said its beyond economical repair and paid me out on it. I purchased car back and had repaired. This was 6 weeks ago.

I rang up about 2 weeks ago about VIC check and they said it didnt need one. I've now sold cab and blokes left a deposit and picks up next week BUT i've just found in my paperwork from insurance company that they will list it as CAT C. Now bloke on phone said it go's on VIC registar straight away so not sure what to do!!??

Any help?

Neil

Don't panic my taxi selling friend,if it's classed as a commercial vehicle it can be cat c yet does NOT require a vic check.it's the same for a lot of cars,it's entirely up to vosa whether it needs a check or not.

even if it did need one its nothing to worry about, they only want to check the identity of the vehicle to make sure its not a ringer or cut n shut they dont even bother if you havnt repaired the damage so long as its light.
my brothers birds old escort needed one after a rear end shunt i just hammered the back panel enough to shut the boot and it passed no problem

Commercial vehicles DEFINATLEY DONT NEED A VIC fella and even if they don't class the taxi as a commercial it's literally a 5 minute check. If it does need a vic then the new keeper will find out when he changes the logbook over as the Dvla will write to him to let him know it requires a vic check before the v5 is released.it's nothing to panic about in anyway.one quick question, does the guy know it's been damaged?if so then you could always explain this too him as he's buying it,they cost about £41 iirc.

Great stuff fella, just you seem an honest chap and wouldn't want you worrying in anyway.lot of hype about vic checks but nothing at all to worry about, sell with confidence mate.one quick top tip though,if he needs to tax it straight away just use the green slip part of the v5 and it'll be fine as he sends it all off as many people do he'll have to wait for a vic check before he taxes it,although when you pass the vic,you can tax it off that certificate although as I said you'll probably never have to vic it anyway!!!

good advise buddy, as you said above - theres far too much hype and worry about vic checks..... dead easy and quick nothing to worry about... and another litte pointer that i didnt know until I did my first vic test was that you are allowed to drive to the test station and back with no mot !!
