Default Dumbass Home Internet/Wi-Fi Question

Quick question,

In this day and age, do I have to run some kind of PC at home to run the internet?

Basically, I've been looking at getting a new PC and a new Internet Provider for a while now as mine was always super-fast and litereally suddenly seemed to go slow.

Now, with the improvements in phones and stuff for web browsing and also being to do all I need to pretty much on the PC at work every day, I don't really use the PC at home any more. But I'd need to be able to run my XBOX 360, PS3, Wii etc wirelessly.

Do I need a PC to enable me to set up a router, or do any of the Internet Providers new fangled routers enable you just to plug it in and go as a standalone type thing?

we didn't have to do fuck all with the BT homehub thing, plugged it in and away it went - all i had to do was enter the access code from my laptop / pc to actually access it. I guess it will depend on the router though

You do NOT need a PC mate no, not even to set it up (can do it from phone for example)

as above, 99% of the things set themselves up automatically nowadays anyway, but then you might not be able to change the default settings.

anyway, your mobile and PS3 will have web browsers on them so you can always use those to configure the thing if you ever did want to change the settings

My sky router was just a plug in and go, user name and password on a sticker on the bottom of a modem, stick that in and away you go!

Cool I should be sorted then!

Second question is the, who is the best, most reliable, easiest to use Internet Provider for wireless?

Not bothered about cost, just want the best possible. I probably won't be able to get the latest super-speedy stuff as I live well out in the sticks, so am well behind on that front, although they're supposed to be upgrading everything soon due to demand round here.

Doesn't matter who the ISP is, the quality/reliability of the wireless is down to the router.
