Default Dumbass Home Internet/Wi-Fi Question

Quick question,

In this day and age, do I have to run some kind of PC at home to run the internet?

Basically, I've been looking at getting a new PC and a new Internet Provider for a while now as mine was always super-fast and litereally suddenly seemed to go slow.

Now, with the improvements in phones and stuff for web browsing and also being to do all I need to pretty much on the PC at work every day, I don't really use the PC at home any more. But I'd need to be able to run my XBOX 360, PS3, Wii etc wirelessly.

Do I need a PC to enable me to set up a router, or do any of the Internet Providers new fangled routers enable you just to plug it in and go as a standalone type thing?
