Default FAO: Car Traders on Here (taxing a car)

Hi guys,

just a quick question. If you had a car on your forecourt upon which the tax had lapsed, would you be able to re-tax it without showing an insurance cover note like any "Joe Public" would have to do?

The reason I ask is because the car I am hopefully about to buy has an expired tax disk. I've asked the car trader to re-tax it for me before I go down to see it, however, can he do this without me providing an insurance cover note for him to use?

Cheers,

Agar

The rules have changed!!!

To tax a car the v5 has to be in your name or the green slip filled out in yr name - the person taxing it i'e the trader.

I know this cos I've had this problem when taxing on my trade policy

simple way to get round it is to fill the green part out in pencil show it at the post office and then go home and erase it - job done

Never been asked to fill in the green slip and taxed a car in may.the only thing they do is stamp the green slip section(over the barcode) so you can't use the green slip to tax it again.ditto above though if the rules have changed and just fill it in with an erasable pen, simples!!!!

Thanks for the helpful replies.

I'm hoping he doesn't have any problems taxing it for me, but if he does I'll now be able to tell him to use the green slip method.

Cheers,

Agar
