yep not my kids as i have none but most of the schools in my area are closing to give the pupils time to get home to watch the match. they did the same when i was at school....
It annoys me though if i was to take her out of school early for a equally trivial excuse i'd get frowned upon i believe her education is more important than the match

I agree its not on to close a school to watch a football match... as much as i didnt mind it when i was at school education should come first, now i look back on it its things like this what made me not give a f**k at school if the teachers dont then what hope have the pupils got imo...
It takes the piss, they not doing it round here, least not at our local school. But what really does take the piss is, after every school holiday, half term etc, our local school always start back a day late, due to staff training days. Now, if we wanted to take the kids out of school for a day, we'd need a good reason, and even then its frowned upon, so why can they keep them off for an extra day. They get enough holiday as it is, so why cant they do whatever training they need in that time?
I've been told to have the big screen in the main hall set up to stream it at 15:00 for staff to watch..
and fellow teachers have been told they can show it to the kids in class..if it falls within their lesson plan

Our kids school wont be finishing early for the footy. End of the day, most scholls finish around 3 anyway, so they will only miss 15mins of the game by the time they get home.
Not right sending them home early, I wont to watch the game, but cant as at work, and not aloud to bring tv`s in etc. Can have the radio on tho, which is something i spose.
It's madness that they let people go home early for a football match, yet Election/Voting day isn't a public holiday or a half day.
More to the point nor is St Georges Day! All these people with their St Georges Flags, claiming patriotism over a game of football. Support your country etc etc and the day of our patron saint isn't a public holiday yet everyone shuts down for football.
