hi all

ive just took the front shocks off my s2 ( spax ) if push the damper down it does nt come back up are these broke and if so are they repairable .

yup, if they dont return to correct position then they are knackered, probably down to them leaking. Mine were the same, just replaced them with new konis in the end.

Well not entirely, so long as they are still stiff to pull up and down they are doing their job fine, if they are easy to push up and down they need replacing. I believe Gas dampers return to their original position where as oil damped shocks don't, not too sure on the definitive answer, but some one on here will be able to give you a yay or nay.
