Default VW Golf GTi Edition 30 DSG?

Hey folks

As some of you are aware that i've been looking into buying a motor and was contemplating a tuned Focus ST or a new Focus RS.

However, i've decided to go for something different and a Golf GTi ED30 it shall be. But before i can make that final, i was wondering if there is anyone on here who has driven/know someone who has one?

All i know about the car is that the ED30 used a detuned Audi S3 Engine with a bigger turbo and a simple stage one remap will give 300bhp

Any feedback???

Would like one of these, but as my every day driver.

Would go for a grey 3door in manual though.

270Bhp is available via a remap I believe, zorst and cooler require for above and beyond...

Rhys is your man to speak to.

Are they not the same engine as a normal GTi though?

The quality of the drive is a different class to an ST

  • Larger Turbo from S3 (K04) rather then the K03 on the GTI
  • 87°C thermostat instead of 80°C
  • Larger capacity fuel injectors (13% higher flow)
  • Larger intercooler (smaller then the S3)
  • Engine block main bearing caps, pedestals are reinforced
  • Conrods have larger rod bolts and new bearings
  • Pistons have 21mm gudgeon pins instead of 19mm
  • Piston top ring is improved
  • Recirculation Valve (blow off valve) not located on turbo

My bro had an EDN30 and i got a Normal GTI. The Edn 30 is nice motor and does have more grunt than standard GTI. Remaped they are supposed to hit 300bhp. Me and my bro both had trail maps done on our cars at same time and while his was quicker not mayorlly soo i dont think.

Very good motors, though one tip if getting one dont get a manual, get a DSG! Trust me much much better than manual. And truly set these cars apart from the other hot hatches.

Only reason i went for a GTi was that it has the DSG box and they are soo much more refined than any other hot hatch.

My mate has an ED30. Was out in it on saturday in fact! His was 321bhp,340lb/ft but he has went back to a standard map at the moment as his clutch was slipping. It has a GIAC controller, S3 cooler, ITG filter, Miltek catback.

Its 280bhp now, quite quick on the straights, but the corners is a bit of a difference compared to my other mates S3.

Heres some pics of his ED30:
