I haven't done this myself but im pretty sure you can buy them for breaking only.
Something like you must produce a certificate of destruction when its been scrapped maybe?

I thought someone on here bought a cat b frs back from the insurance?always led to believe you need to be a registered breaker myself though?a lot of companies won't let you buy your car back even if it's really light whereas others sell you cat c's and help you with the vic check etc!!a lot of these insurance companies have cottonned on to the values of the salvage but again it's down to the individual firm so good luck with it all!!you could always be really nice to the assesor and tell him how much you love the car and want it back and he may decide to cat c it so you can then buy it back.explain the rarity of the parts etc and how much "sentimental" value the car has to you and that you plan to only really use it for parts he may make an exception, does happen.

I once purchased a Yamaha R1 not knowing it was a cat B.
I had repaired the vehicle and applied for the book, soon to get a shock from dvla stating they would not issue a logbook with original reg num.
Contacted my local dvla and they asked to see the bike, and after 2 days I had a new reg and book and not recorded as ever being damaged.
So there is a possility, but if they know that you was the one asked by the insurance to dismantal the vehicle for spares I doupt they would issue one to you.

And it's "grammar" not "grammer"
Try a spell-checker!
I detest people who cannot even be bothered to even TRY!!!! And just because it's a car site, does that mean you put your car back together wrong too?

Is there anything saying you can't hand the car over? Surely its worth more in parts than what they'll give you from claiming?
Why are people getting so uptight about spelling is it a short man small penis thing? Because it only seems to be bothering two people.

Hope it all works out for you fella, can't see you losing out either way really but if they take a bit of pity on you and make it cat c you could put it back on the road and knock about in it or if cat b grab a clean bare shell, few days swapping over and it's done........well,in theory!!!and as for spelling,I do like accuracy myself, but nobodies perfect!!!!
Cat B's can be bought and put back on the road,i know a few people who have done it,just go to the nearest vosa inspection place and give the reg and chassis number and ask if it needs a vic check, they will look it up and 9 times out of 10 they will say yes it needs a vic, then you get it vic checked and send for the log book, easy
