hi folks was looking to pick a few brains. i have a 4*4 saph, it did a headgasket in. i got the head skimmed and put a burton group a head set in. ive done about 500 miles since. pulls well, no missfires, running 100%. only prob is its using water. there is no leaks anywere, ive checked a dozen times. i took it for a run tonight and when i got back to my garage i pulled the bonnet and took the water bottle cap off will it was running and topped the water bottle back up. i left the lid off and noticed the top pipe for the water bottle that runs to the top water pipe for the turbo was blowing air bubbles back into the water bottle. i watched for 5 mins odd and it kept on doing so. any thoughts whats going on with it? or were the water is going to? the car runs fine, holds temp and cools fine. cheers for any info

 

did you bleed it properly after you did the head?

 

yes was blead, just keeps drinking water

 

When you say drinking water how much, are you sure its not your turbo feed return thats bubbling when you have the cap off and engine is running, if so water will flow through the pipe when coolant system full of water. ??

 

dont want to piss on your fire works but if the hg is sealed properly and its using lots of water it can only be a cracked head or even worse a cracked block...

put a lot of anti freeze in there and see if you can smell it out the exhaust...
Check oil on dip stick and make sure its not got water in there..

And also keep an eye on the inside-heater. Maybe something wet inside?!?

 

Maybe leaking from turbo water pipes and evaporating ?, did you use new washers on the banjo's ?

Agreed - check that first, at worst you can put a u piece of copper pipe in the end of the rubber ones to blank it off temporarily if that is the case.

Always look for the easy fixes first, at least two people on here have discovered it was a dodgy matrix

 

try these

1. borrow/ buy a Coolant Pressure tester kit, check for leakdown. If no leakdown.
2. Buy yourself a Bt500 block tester, and try that out £30 on ebay..

The header tank can crack internally causing it to lose water

 

I had this problem and unfortunately my block was cracked!
