focus tdci sport
As above who owns one or has owned one. Ive always liked the st170 but have read how thirsty they are for the performance that you get in return. So ive been to test drive the derv version tonight.
Its on a 2004 reg and to be honest it felt a nice drive. It was my first time driving a focus and i must say i was impressed. Is there anything to look out for when buying these apart from the duel mass flywheel probs and how well do they remap ?
The car i drove tonight was in blue and had 80000 miles on the clock. The dealer wants 4700 which i think is a tad over priced although there isnt many about for sale.
Your opinions would be appreciated

One like this.....
l
I enjoyed mine for 4 years and 60,000 miles
Typical focus running costs
Would have one again( sold 2 year back)
The DMF is prone to let go at that milage but you will know on a road test
Respondes well to bluefin up to above 130+ bhp some owners reported 143.
I got the sides coloured coded as seen
ST Lower grill
Lowered on GAZ shocks and Eibach springs which you can get fm Ford
Nice car in Imp Blue

Dad never had any problems with the DMF or flywheel (apart from replaceing it due to normal mileage wear & tear). Was the same engine, 1.8 TDCi 115 but in Ghia spec. Did 142k when he sold it.
had mine since new, in 2004, still got it today,
couldnt bring myself to sell it when i wanted to buy a faster car as have a company van for daily use, so i gave it to the mrs!!!!!
great cars, and st170 looks without the running costs!
probably one of the only cars i dont regret buying! but would regret selling!
my dual mass is getting noisy on startup and shut down, cars done 50k.
clutch concentric slave is weepeing also so will change flywheel when i whip the box out in the very near future!

mate just got one, loves it apart from having a boost problem atm but a derv specialist is having a look tomorrow, i have a 170 and as much as i love it my mpg is poor, would love a tdci sport tho.
They're great cars, bloke at work has one and has done quite a bit to it, goes like stink!
For the bloke with the boost problem, have you checked the 2 intercooler boost hoses? Its not uncommon for these to blow off causing no boost.

yup did check no air leaks, on a drive if you average a speed then put your foot down it boosts fine but from standing it locks the boost off, i think its running in a safe mode, he got it with no prob, it popped a boost hose on the motorway and the aa put it back on now no boost, soon find out tomorrow tho. But thanks for the idea.

So lots of good comments about them guys. I do like them but think its going to be difficult to find a good low milege one and in imperial blue as they do seem extremely rare and dont want to travel half the country for one. Going to test drive a vw golf gttdi tomorrow on a 02 plate its the 130 model. Il see how it compares to the focus.
I have a Ghia 53 TDCI 115 estate with 61K it is a superb car. I also drove the hatch before getting this car and it was a better drive and quicker. But the estate is very good. I test drove a few VAG cars before buying this, 2 passat 03 130 TDI's, an Octavia 03 110 TDI and also a MK4 Golf 100 TDI. In my humble opinion the Focus is a way better drive than all of these cars, they just felt so dull to me. Then again the VAG car's will probably last longer, but I am very happy with my Focus.
just bought a tdci 115ps sport got 35k on clock and got it for less than 5K only problems were paint work scratched so i will be spending time with the T-Cut and the boost pipe has got a split in it which is only a few bob to replace
It does go fast, mate has a 1.9 Audi A3 tdi and it can stay with that no problem in fact never been had by anyone in a 1.6/1.8 petrol
