Default Anyone got / getting 3D TV??

Went to a demo with panasonic the other day and was TOTALLY blown away!

I thought it would be a bit of a gimmick.... but WOW. Totally shocked and impressed.

The football looked amazing! and so did some console games.

I havent been to see any of these 3D films at the cinema, so was walking in to this demo. blind so to speak. Also the glasses werrent those spacktard cardboard blue and red things of the past.. but what looked like pretty normal clear lensed specs.

I'll deffo be buying one when Sony release their range later this year.

I think these 3D TV's will totally shake up the market! Get your shares in for all the major flat screen companies IMO!

nah fuck it why would i want to watch stuff in 3-d its not that big deal and its gona cost a shed load of money OLED 3mm thick tv's using a tiny ammount of power now thats what would be good. if you buy a 3-d tv how long is it going to be untill you can receve a 3-d broadcast how longago did HD come out??? and im still waiting for my HD picture which o only get whn on the xbox or watchin dvd's. tbh i think the market needs to develop what its got atm i.e bring HD telly to the masses not just thoses who are prepaird to pay the premium. but saying that the 3-d if used well can add affect and make it seem more realistic

Got a feeling OLED tv's in a decent size are a long way off. Arent the 15" screens available now in the states for like Ł3k or something?

Just bought the new 8000 series Samsung 55" 3D tv. Havent powered it up yet but demo'd the smaller 46" and was fookin awesome!!

Personally i wouldn't entertain 3D yet its going to be a while before 3D actually takes off, by the time it does come there will be some proper 3D tv's out

if you do go for one though go for the panny VT20 it blew the samsung one out of the water on the reviews

To be honest I bought the Sansung for its looks the narrow mounting depth, the pana is 9cm deep. I dont think i'd even the 3D glasses!! As a matter of interest which Samsung TV did they compare the Panasonic to in the reviews?

Heres my new one

the c8000, as most samsung fans feared they still have problems with the Cross Talk Ghosting in 3D and poor black levels and AV also commented on the Very Poor Backlight Uniformity

You bought/still planning to buy one, Dave?

I was waiting for the car to be MOT'd yesterday and was reading the latest What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine they'd got in the garage and there was a review of the new 60" Sony 3D TV. They gave it a rave review, so I think I'm gonna take the plunge soon

Was going to post similar the other day Dave, had a demo of the samsung one and like you say, its not a gimmik and is VERY impressive. Ive seen a lot of 3d stuff at pictures and IMAX and none comes close to the quality of these, really is going to be a big deal IMO. Only downside is with 5 people in our family thats Ł500 straight away on 5 pairs of glasses . And you just know someone is going to sit on a pair. Also if someones comes round for a natter theyre gonna be watching a blurred TV unless you get a spare set! But, after all that I definitely want and my room is ready for a revamp so Im looking at that silver samsung 3D LED 50". Ive had a samsung for last 4 years now and run it in poor conditions and its never let me down yet so im going to stick with them.

Haha. I knew they weren't the standard issue blue/red ones but i was worried they'd be tinted

Clear lense sounds fine but how big are they? I wear glasses already for watching tv so putting a pair on top is strange but i cope at the cinema.

ive had nvidia 3dvision on my PC for about a year now and honestly, its a gimick that gets boring after about 10 minutes

if they srat to broadcast anything worth watching on mainstream TV in stereoscopic then maybe i'll look into it but currently theres not enough 3d video content to keep me happy.

I've found the Samsung glasses don't fit well over normal spectacles - so I can either have it blurred with my glasses or blurred with their glasses lol

It's never wise to be an 'early adopter' of new technology. Invariably you end up paying a shit load for something with unproven reliability, and it will be updated/superseded/reduced in price within months of buying it.

I can't watch 3d stuff, I have an un-matured nerve in my left eye (and lots more in my body ) so my vision doesn't merge correctly which means it doesn't quite work for me.

Sucks!

sky already have a 3d channel and are going to be rolling out more and more fottie on it too, and with 46 HD channels now on offer, it won't take too long for the 3d stuff to start scrolling through

bad idea buying a 3DTV now while they are still top whack, there will only be one 3D sky channel at first (most of the programs will be boring and not worth watching apart from the 3D gimmick, like when HD first came out) and there is only a handful of true 3D DVD's and Bluray's available.

i am waiting until there is plenty of titles to buy and several 3D channels before i get a 3DTV, by then the price of the TV sets will have plummetted anyway.

last year channel 4 broadcasts a load of programs in 3D for a few days in 3D, and with 3D glasses it looked brilliant - which says to me that a dedicated 3D channel and TV sets arent really needed when they can do it on the current setup anyway?

Upscaled blu-ray films look fookin awesome. Watched Transformers last night on blu-ray with it upscaled and to me its fine, well worth the price I paid for it (although it wasn't 'top whack currys prices!!'

percy, the standard blue/green 3d stuff can be transmitted and watched without incident.

the actual tech behind this new "3d" isnt actually all that clever and has been around a while! its just been that non-CRT screens have not had the ability to do a good enough refresh rate so its not been adapoted.

now that you can get 120hz LCDs people are using it more.

it very simply just displays 2 different images (1 for each eye) alternately in each frame, and the glasses simple have shutters (well, equivalent of) that cover over each eye seperately as each frame is displayed.

the TV itself is not "special", othe than its refreshing at 120hz rather than 60hz!

I got the Samsung 9000 series 3D LED TV. Stunning piece of kit and I've not even plugged it in yet lol! It's so thin and the the back of it is pure TV porn.

Got 4 pairs of glasses when I bought it. Should really set it up!!

They are shit hot! Saw some today in Costco. They're just going to become the norm and come down in price like every other electronic good does, so I'll just wait a while I think.
