Default Idea's on what to ask

I took my car into the garage yesterday for a little check before its mot and was told it needed bits doing to it to pass, I cant afford to do this so I'd had to put it up for sale

what i need to know is what sort of price should I ask, I am putting whats wrong with it down on the add because I would hate to buy something and find out it needed alot doing to it.

Cv joint front
Shock has started to leak
2 x wheel bearings
Brakes discs and pad's all round
2 tyres

Thats before it even goes through mot, so a few hundred would get the car back to how it was.

Anyway its a 2000 plate w reg clio 172, part history. 135k miles with tax to oct, 3 owners,

All you need to do is check Autotrader or Pistonheads for a similar car. Then deduct the cost of the MOT repairs plus Ł200 as a sweetner I reckon.

What you could also do is take the car to another MOT station. Sometimes opinions vary.

I've always been lucky with my cars, I haven't got anyone to check over cars for me when I do go and buy them, so its only what I know which tbh is not alot..

Had about 5 cars and nothing has gone wrong with them in the last 2 years, and I did have a feeling this one was going get me but I didnt think it would cost as much as it would, plus labour is Ł180 on it..

I am gutted but I cant do it so it has to go

T

How much can you afford to put it right.

I have various parts littering my garage for Clio sports. Most of what you've listed tbh! And my best mate runs an MOT station.

I sure I can get this back on the road for you cheap as chips!!!

Swap 1 of the wheels for the spare if its any good, aslong as the brakes aren't excessively worn they'll could pass on them.

Did the garage say how much play was in the bearings & which shock is it?

The back pass side wheel bearing had alot of play in the wheel,
shock was the front driver side he said it has started leaking.

if i lived nearer would have come done your car f.o.c for you
im sure someone with a generous heart nearer you will help you out
thats sounds like an easy fix ,so am suprised your family friend has asked that much to do it ,or/and hasnt done it as freebie (but if he runs a business gotta respect that i suppose)

just ask someone on here only sounds a cpl of hours work for someone who knows what there doing !!!

shame to get rid for such small jobs that need doing
and as said front discs usually come with complete hubs on the fronts on them
you may have to get the back one pressed in/out
in which case get it all removed and take to local garage with your new bearing and ask them to press it for ya ..

good luck and if you like the car get it fixed

Can you get a complete pair of strut + hub assemblies from a breakers? Should be a lot cheaper than getting bearings changed etc. Discs/pads - try unipart / eurocarparts. Rather than change CV joint, get a second hand drive shaft from a breaker and change it when you swap the struts over. Happy days.

Pair of struts - Ł60?
2nd hand drive shaft - Ł25?
Set of discs/pads - Ł75?
= ~Ł160 - if you can get trade on the discs/pads you're definitely quids in.

rear discs are really exspensive on these even if your in the trade and buy from a factors as they have the abs ring and wheel bearing fitted into them someone above mentioned the front discs coming complete with hubs????? ignore that as its utter tosh lol! the shocks are about Ł20 and i would get the cv joint from a breakers as mentioned above

Dont know if it helps, but, I've used these companies in the past and cant rate them highly enough!

Discs and Pads

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Clio-Megane-Sc...item5ad9af43a5

CV Joints/Drive Shafts

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-CLIO-M...item20acc81f0f

Cant promise the links are for the right car (Just searched Clio) but their prices are awesome and I've never had a prob with their stuff (I've got a Renault Master van BTW and disc/pads/cv joint are abused on a daily basis)

The abs ring comes off with a little heat,we used a hot air gun and it popped off in two seconds but I'm talking about a drum Clio.bearing press is required to get the bearing out but not back in.
