So I buy another car ... Another Golf GT TDi...
Evening folks, long time no speak
A chap at work said to me, his wifes golf is dead, it has a blown turbo and he is going to scrap it.
I said I would look at it and make him a realistic offer, so thats what I did.
I spoke to the garage it was at, and basically the problem of the description was as follows:
"The turbo oil seal has gone, its flooded the intercooler and made its way into the head. Its probably got bent rods, also the exhaust will need changing. Its seized as well, cant turn the engine over by hand."
The car is poorly.
So, I offered said colleague a low price for it and he accepted! So its now on my drive sitting on my 18's, ready for work. (going to sell the other Golf I have when this is functional).
So, what would be the best course of action?
a) Get another engine of same code and replace, inc turbo.
b) Try and get this fixed, knowing there may be possible bottom end damage and future problems?
Its a shame and the reason I bought it is that its immaculate, FSH, not many owners, had a fortune spent on the upkeep etc etc, plus its 5 years newer than my current one.
Here is the poorly girl ...

So, can I have some suggestions if poss about sorting this mess out.

Ran,
Yeh I did think about changing from the current PD115 model, but I dont want to have to faff about with looms, ecu etc, want it to be as cheap as possible.
I wouldnt go for a PD150 anyway, because of the cam issues. But would deffo consider a PD130 remapped to 180bhp. But is it JUST the ECU and engine?

Do the obvious tests first as I've never heard of a leaking turbo seal to cause all those other problems but I do learn something new everyday!!best to replace the lump in one I think,I've got a passat tdi on an r reg you can have for Ł350,the motor is a cracker on it and it's been chipped to 130 horses and flies, car is well rough but mechanically sound, not 100% sure if it's exactly the same motor but it would need a lot of swapping over as the passat engine sits longitudinally and the golf transverse but I'd be 100% certain it would be feasible, nice motor by the way, looks the part!!

it can happen where the oil go's through the turbo & the engine then runs on its own oil, the only way to stop the engine is to stall it. In some cases the oil can 'hydraulic' the engine causing damage.
Stu, get the engine checked, it may be ok.

The garage did say it had hydrauliced, but I think he was possibly trying to pull a fast one. I'll get the rocker cover off later and whip out the glow plugs and turn it into an oil firing golf lol.
Thanks for the replies.

take the hose off the bottom of the intercooler and see what happens, if oil pisses out it
wont be good lol
at least that way the hyraulic lock seems more plausable.
take the plugs out and try to crank it by hand

cant beleive you ordered a set of coliovers for a car that doesnt run and you want to keep costs down. my priority would be to get the motor sorted first then think about cosmetics.
i would just get a complete new engine, save the hasle, thats if that one really is fucked
I've got the same probs with my mundaneo but mine all happened at very low speed and didnt hydraulic lock the engine while driving .
Get the glow plugs out and turn over by hand to get rid of oil is sounding a good idea , im hoping that is what i can do and then just get the turbo rebuilt or get a recon one .
If the oil seal went at high speed then i could imagine it will suck its own engine oil up and could do untold damage . still worth trying to save the engine in it first tho , garages arn't known to tell the full truth all the time .
