4a+2b=100

I know its simple as as the top and bottom both have same number etc but i just want to double check i got the right answer other wise it fooks up a load of other stuff

Just answer as follows:

"I cannot answer this question as it is against my religious principles."

Then sue them if they don;t give you full marks

Take the binary number on the first and second peramitive of the equasion, then muliply it by 2.974 and take the lowest derogative from the remaning odd numbers.
This will give you the the highest calorific value of the lower number set.

I concur whole-heartedly, although I would have expected at least a kiss at the end of the 1st date.

substitute it back into the equation

so use your value of B and multiply it by two (2B), which leaves u with this

4A + 40.5 = 100

4A = 100 - 40.5

4A = 59.5

A = 59.5/4

A = 14.875

HTH

Rawli, in your head? Fuck off

Okay, you firstly take the 2nd line from the top

4a + 6b = 181
MINUS
4a + 2b = 100

Leaving 4b = 81

Therefore 1B = 20.25

Now.....take this back to the SECOND equation (easier).

So 4a + 2B = 100

So, 2B os 20.25*2 (40.5).

100 - 40.5 = 4a
Giving A = 14.875

Now, run these two figures through the top equation to chekc they work.

4a + 6b = 181

4a = 59.5
6b = 121.5

So....121.5 + 59.5 = 181

So the values worked out are correct.

Its much easier to follow when written on paper, hope ya can see how i got it mate!

Rhys,

I did it this way:

4a + 2B = 100

So........ 4a = 100-2b

.... a = 25-1/2b

Which means:

4(25-1/2b) + 6b = 181

Mutiply out.........

100-2b+6b = 181

100+4b = 181

4b = 81

b = 20.25

Then just input that into the other equation:

4a + 40.5 = 100

4a = 59.5

a = 14.875

All I keep seeing is that line at the top of the exam paper that says:

"Don't forget to show ALL your work"

The only problem with Phils way I can remember is when you have different letter values in each equation, so you can't subtract.

In this case, it's not a problem.

I failed A-level maths

Got a U at AS level lolol....quality, sorted my act out since i been at uni though, can even do calculus *just* LOL. It being an engineering degree theres crap loads of maths formulas etc, so im getting there now.

Rich, indeed. In that case you multiply everything up till you have a common factor, and then add, or subtratc whichever

If your ever unsure to whether its correct,

if u put the values that you have calculated into either (or both for piece of mind) of the equations the answer will always be correct. this is always good as it means you cant be wrong, Most of the marks awarded for simulataneous equations is for the working out, as the answer can simple at times

4x + 6y = 230 --> [1]
1x + 1y = 40 --> [2]

Multiply [2] by 4, to get an equal coefficient of x:

4x + 6y = 230
4x + 4y = 160

Subtract:

2y = 70 --> y = 35

Substitute into [1]:

4x + 6(35) = 230 --> 4x + 210 = 230 --> 4x = 230 -210 = 20 --> x = 5

I still remember it, despite it being last millennium that I did A-Level Maths!

Quiet fun to revive old knowledge, I must confess I had forgot about it but it quickly got back into my head after some excellent tutorials on here.
