Default RS500 genuine lower spoiler.????

Hi all,

The genuine RS500 lower spoiler.

Is it made out of rubber like material? and what is the original colour?

The colour of the original lower spoiler looks like a matt or satin finish.

Cheers
Ray

made of rubber and similar to matt black

part number will have a "C" at the end to signify Cosworth for the spoiler cutout.

There are similar spoilers that were fitted to Ghias and 2.0iS models as standard and are identical to the RS500 ones but do not have the cutout for the spoiler and also do not have the "C" in the part number

The 2.0is is not the same! because 2.0is one is narrower! same as xr4*4 but in rubber finnish.
This is the 2.0is spoiler:

The RS500 spoiler is so wide that it rest on the rear arches..
like this:

Here in Norway the RS500 type spoiler (without cutout) was a RS styling part you could order to mk1 Sierra..

So most Sierra mk1's in Norway had this "RS" spoiler

A chap called Doo was selling his last one on here recently and those were the last new ones that I know of... the soft rubber lasts pretty much for ever but the end clips rust in quite often... so if you are looking for one bear that in mind.

@AndyPen wow that some price, but is it the real RS500 piece? it says that it need a bit cut out around the spoiler support. was that not factory standard or was that a step that they did at the tickford factory when assembling teh RS500?

the link posted from ebay is not a genuine rs500 spoiler.

Tommen - over here the 2.0iS models had the longer spoiler that sits over the rear quarter panels (my dad had one when i was younger )

There are some spoilers that look the same but only cover the tailgate and not the quarters which look similar to the RS500 ones and also made of rubber. These were found on xr4x4's etc

No it isn't a correct one as said - the cut out needs to be done by the new owner... very carefully!!!! Easiest way is to drop it in place with the top spoiler loosened up... then rest the spoiler base on it and mark it up. Be aware that it isn't a straight cut as the fin base is tapered... so you need to cut inside your mark to take account of this. Cut to exact size and it will look loose. That is the only mod you need to do.

Here is a new gen one... goodness knows what that is worth now!!! £86 back then.

O.k sorry
I just hate the look of the shorter spoiler under the RS500 whale tail

I have to say, i have cut out many of these wide type spoilers to fit under the whale tail in my life..
And it is a hell of a job to get right!
Its very easy to destroy it!

I had a brand new spoiler of Tony (DOO) in 2009 - i payed £300 for it and it didn't have the V as non 500 part but and it's a big BUT, for the time it took me to draw around the stem of the upper spoiler and cut out i wasn't bothered.

500 lower spoilers in brand new condition don't exist, well commonly on the market that is but if one came up i would bet my life it would have at least £800-£1000 price tag on it.

I had the chance of many second hand warped faded spoilers for around £200-£300 but decided on one of Tony's new items for the same money.

No brainer really if you are fitting to a non RS500

Isn't it possible to do some rubber replica's? The only replica's I see are fibreglass or carbon, don't like that myself.

But finding someone to reproduce rubber 500 spoilers isn't going to happen, best bet is the spoilers Tony is selling

By "normal one" i pressume you mean its a normal sierra item,
And not a cosworth item?
I dont have a cossy at the mo, so thought if its a cosworth item
It might be worth keeping, As i was thinking of getting another
One in the future sometime.
But if its not then might sell it if i can get anything decent for it.
If not just bin it!!!
Undecided......
