Having a few issues with my brakes and not too sure what exactly is causing the problems now....basically my brake pedal seems very slow to come back up after depressing and is causing the brakes to almost bind on for a moment or two after braking hard, as well as generally being a bit spongy tbh.
I have recently fitted a new 22mm master cylinder (couldn't find a bigger one) and installed braided lines throughout the front of the car so am assuming the master cylinder isn't at fault (but not discounting it), so wondering if it's possibly the servo not giving the assistance it should perhaps??
To be honest i'm no expert when it comes to brakes so thought i'd ask first to see if anyone has had similar issues or any ideas before i start changing things!

i've just finished installing the new servo and mastercylinder on mine and if i were you i'd do the same as my brakes are so much better the unit on mine came of a tdci mondeo (54 plate) but you can use any unit of focus/transit/mondeo etc of the newer breads only really difference is the position of the hole servo pipe goes in and the mondeo is in the same place thats why i used it the assistance is great just like all the newer stuff, and your problem is down to either the spring that raps around the transfer bar has gone weak or the one hidden in the servo has gone weak

 

project rs is this a straight forward bolt on conversion? (just outta intrest)

 

Cool be interested to know exactly what you had to etc mate, finished mapping today and pissed off with the brakes now as i've got track days coming up and th pedal feel's always been shit tbh, would love the same pedal feel as in my new transit connect lol!

 

no but is really easy to do so long as you can weld but am thinking about seeing if i can get some units cheap of flee bay and converting then ready to re sell if theres interest

 

Sadly not got direct access to a welder but could get some done if required, did you just get a servo/mastercylinder setup from the scrappy and make it fit? Any firther info or pics would be good

 

got mine of ebay as knew what i wanted and yes offered it up and made it fit i'll get some pictures up tomorrow for you

if it's anything like an xr2, then you need to open the holes in the brackets on the rs turbo and then chop and reweld them to bring the servo towards the bulkhead a bit and angle upwards a touch.
i've done twenty or so conversions for mk2 fiestas now, very good upgrade IMO

we did it slighty different to xr2wishy and cut the studs of the servo and made a new plate up then welded that onto the back of the servo and also angled it a bit so if need be can take a standard servo back on with no evidence it had ever been altered

 

Project Rs, I would certainly be very interested in one if you could sort one out so its a direct fit!!

Does the pedal feel become a lot better? or just slightly?

 

it's nice and light just like a modern car i kept doing emergency stops as i got used to it as kept forgetting

Looked into mine today and found the problem.....servo arm is sticking, took the master cylinder off and was still stiff so after spraying the rod with lube and a bit of grease it's alot better now. Thinking it might be a good idea to get a newer setup to fit though

 

if you look closely you'll see in pic 3 that i had to contour the inner turret to allow the servo room to sit and the servo arm also needed to be longer but apart from that it's an easy fix and already an escort has been dropped at mine to have same conversion and a fiesta is lined up after that

Project how did you make the servo arm longer? chop it and weld an extra piece in? Glad its an improvement any way mate.
