Am getting fed up replacing plug leads on my s2 due to them being so close to the tubular manifold and getting to hot (mainly number 3) Melted nearly right through the other day even with the bloody heats sleeves on!! So decided to take the chance and wrap the manifiold.Now its a Jamsport one and was a bit worried because the previous one cracked (although was ceramic coated not wrapped) ive only partly wrapped it in the areas needed but wanted to know if anyone else has wrapped theres and if so has it been ok?

Be ok if you just wrap it where needed.

Does ceramic coating cause them to crack then? I was planning on getting mine done and thats we have done to the racing cars at work.

 

Yes it can do, my old one cracked which was ceramic coated, this can happen because its so efficient it holds the heat in so well.All depends on the manifold type though im lead to believe.

 

i was led to believe that it's down to the fact that most tubular manifolds are made with thin wall steel, i.e 1.5mm thick or so. this means that they are inherently weak and with heat added they become prone to stress cracking. iirc the runners need to be made from 3mm thick steel to avoid this occuring.
