02 mondeo tdci fuel pump fault
Hi all,
I bought a tdci mondeo last month and all was fine, until last week when 2 mins into my journey the engine judderred like it ran out of fuel, cut out & died. It won't start again. I have had it started with easy start (apologies) but thats it. I have followed threads on here and replaced the cam sensor. no joy. had diagnostics done - £70 later: faults were fuel pump and injectors. replaced pump near fuel tank - nothing. would the faulty pump be reason the car won't start (one on engine) - as am worried about throwing money at it blindly. any thoughts or help greatly appreciated.
also I dont have the remote fob. can this effect the immobiliser coming into play as I have replaced the battery and getting nothing from master key??
yours confused
cheers
steve

sounds like the pump in the engine steve - a fiesta i bought did the same after a week of buying it.
Pm me as i have a great contact who can sort it out cheaply and they do mail order to

Ask him if he will guarentee that will fix it. If not, don't do it.
Often when the pump goes it breaks up and tiny fragments block up the lines and filter, they need to be looked at too.

you wil need to interrogate the pump properly using specific pump diagnostic software which the normal readers dont pick up on. This will then tell you exactly what is wrong with the pump.
As in the pm, give Owen a ring

ran, that is for a tddi engine. a tdci has no electronics on the pump. there is a solenoid valve and a pressure sensor only. need to know more about the fault code and the terminoligy that came out of it to make an informed reply
Trending Topics
As an example - mine is saying I've got a MAF fault, yet even when I swapped it for a fully functionning MAF from a different Mondeo the fault is still there. The fault codes sometimes narrow down your search, and at other times send you in the completely different direction.
My advice would be to speak to a few local diesel specialists, and see if any of them have a suggestion - The very last thing I would be doing is shelling out getting on for £1500 for a new pump/injectors/rail etc unless I was 100% convinced.
each injector is 200plus from fords and as stated the pump isnt cheap either, it is a very common fault on the tdci's, at my old spares place they were our best selling engine (engine pump and injectors complete)
I had my pump changed for just under 500 quid all in - was getting quotes from 800 upto 1200
Very different set up, as the TDCI is common rail, and the TDDI is direct injection.
also there are two types of injectors, if you go down the route of getting injectors make sure you match up by part number,
indeed, 04 onwards iirc is tdci engines, pre 04 is tddi with a totally different injection system

is it not worth getting a new / 2nd hand engine with pump & injectors then? if its £1500 to replace pump and injectors with labour????

What exactly is the fault with your car. Is it just not starting, or are their other symptoms? Glow Plug light... smoke.. excessive noise etc??
yes and no, it depends where you get it from iam going to be honest here and say most spares places cant 100% gurantee a engine, as they dont know the history of the engine before they brake the car for spares, and the last thing you want to do is pay for fitting a crap engine, whether you can get your money back on the engine or not,
is yours a 115bhp or 130bhp engine?, there are quite a few late 05 06 ones knocking about for breaking but i also doubt you will get a honest answer about the milage, being a popular taxi and rep car
i suppose it depends on how long you want to keep the car, if its a long time then get new or recon parts, as least then you know it will last (thats assuming the rest of the engine is in good working order and will last as long as the new pump/injectors ha)
its swings and roundabouts mate,

its swings and roundabouts mate,
well my old fiesta is up for sale if you want it for a couple of hundred quid as the turbo has gone - the rest of the engine runs sweet.
or better still get in the car, drive/tow it down the road and then call the AA/RAC to take you to where i stated in the PM
they will then tell you exactly what is up with that car

have you rang Owen?
Can you get the pump off yourself and send it to him?
It was a mission of a drive for me (near Heathrow), especially with the car cutting out every 5-10 mins

not rung him yet as of yet as I can't see me making that journey with work and what have you. will get pump off first then prob give him a call although I don't know what i'm looking at
I don't think it's necessarily the pump/injectors though - They don't just stop working, you're more likely to have it cutting out and glow plug light on for a few weeks (or even months/years) before they die totally.
Find out the fault codes, and tell us what they are!

glow plug light came on a couple of times. as did the orange snowflake looking thing air con maybe. anyway - not often and not for long. it just died and that was that. like it ran out of fuel, then everything shut down and was like a tank to roll into layby
do the fault codes point at the pump?
If so then i would call him first before you doing anything mate - he wont bite.
As its a mondy its common the for injectors to fail
Did this just happen?
I have also heard of a few cars needing ECU updates so it could be that too.

Did the car start with a jump start? Just had a problem with my mums st tdci mondeo where it was perfect, went into start it, it went then would cut out straight away. Jumped it and it ran again. The next day the same happened. Turned out it was the agr valve. Not sure if all tdci's are all the same set up though. I believe you can blank them off.
Thats exactly what i found. Try and jump it and see if it starts. If it does there is a chance it could be this. you can blank it off, or i was about 130 quid for a new one.
