Right fella's, I have a strong suspicion that my heater matrix is proper fooked. The General rarely blow's out any hot air from the heaters, warm occasionally, Mk 4 Escort hot, very, very rarely
.
Now, me m8 rob can source me a new heater matrix for 28 sheets + vat.
Firstly, is this a good price ? And secondly, is this an easy thing to change ? (In general, and for a man of my talents)
I would of e-mailed this round, but the super computer's suffering a setback at the mo

1st of all are you sure its the heater matrix ?
Has the general had the thermostat removed? if not has it been checked to make sure its not stuck open? I would do this 1st before buying a heater matrix. the thermostat is only about £10.
Yes £28 is a good price for a matrix
re super computer, should have bought a pentium

Get the thermo out the housing first Dan and check it by hanging in some boiling water from cold and see if it opens or does anything
or take it into the
with you.
Also flush the whole system, it could be an air lock somewhere? Try getting the engine to a warm/hot temperature with the heater switched to hot and feel the 2 pipes that go thru the bulk head, see if their getting hot at all? If they aint its 99% an air lock.
Has the wire broken on the twisty knob for the heater?
Failing all that, is there enough air in your tyres? and is there a Vanillaroma magic tree hanging from your mirror? All this could lead to the heater matrix going.................

Right, what's it look like ? Andy, your diagnostic skills may well be required soon
Suspension goes on Saturday
First of all, is you're engine heating up to a proper temperature? That is, the needle being about horizontal?
Also check that the heater matrix is plumbed the correct way around. Can't remember which way it was, but it makes a difference.

In the thermostat housing, in the smaller passage, there shoud be a plastic valve type of thing. Check that it's there. If it's missing, it results in a car that heats up when idling at stand still, but cools down too much when at speed. The engine temperature of course directly effects the heating too.
