tomtom's do everywhere mate
but to be honest, go into a halfords or the like and have a go at the different ones, lots of peole use tomtom because they are the most user friendly, even though other versions like the garmin or navman might have more fetures or better this or that, they are a bit too complicated to be able to use easily wihtout having to decipher loads of different menu's and options
we are currently changing over to palm pilots and i'm not sure what system they have on them, but they have been directing us down country lanes, cycle paths, bridle ways and all sorts

Ive only used one Tom Tom, and compared to the 3-4 Garmins Ive used, they dont even come close to ease of use.
the screen on the Tom Tom at night is terrible as well.
So I'm voting Garmin. They also do a big screen version for use in trucks etc

ye which version (model) is used for trucks
I recently looked into this quite alot as wanted a new sat nav also.Have always had tom toms but thought id try a garmin for a change.Glad i did its much better and came with the speed cameras built in.The model was the nuvi 1310 that got 'which' magazine sat nav of the year 2009
I had a garmin but it was total shit. Got a tomtom now and its spot on. Dead easy to use (even my mrs can use it so must be easy lol). Has been dropped down a concrete flight of stairs and apart from a few marks it was unharmed!
Ive got a tom tom classic, as said above it could not be any easier to use and has always got me from a to b even even in busy towns/citys. Dont know what the chap was saying about the screen at night, mine is easy to see/read day or night, in any case most times you dont need to look at it , the voice tells you everything. I would not be without mine
mine tells you the street names as well as the directions, so it's really easy to use
and you can change the colour settings for several different ones to suit your eyes for daytime as well as night time viewing so that's all cool too for me

And the general opinion now is that Tomtom is best.
