Default Cossie 4x4 technical help please. Vac system..

Hello gents (and Hayley probably) lol

I've been under the bonnet of my saph 4x4 red top. Looking to install a turbo timer, a blitz item, mainly for warm up use.
Its the dual function and has an integrated boost gauge.

I'm in the inlet manifold area (not literally of course, not Land of the Giants ) looking for a point to tap into the vac pipes to feed the boost gauge function.
Now, the fuel regulator has it's own dedicated vac pipe from the manifold to the reg, so I'm not going into that.
Another vac pipe goes to the dump valve.
And a third vac pipe goes to the map sensor. This line has a T-piece in it with a vac pipe going to a solenoid, and a 'plastic kind of rounded cube' (best description, sorry) which are both located up on the N/S wing near the battery and ign amp.
What is this device, and do I need it?
I initially thought that this was the charcoal canister, or something to do with emmision control or fuel vapour control. On researching it, Ford literature indicates these are down the O/S (drivers) side, and are more squared in construction, and fitted to the Green Top, so now I'm stumped. Can anybody shed any light on this for me?
I'm thinking if it is surplus to requirements, I can use the T to plumb in the boost gauge without having to add another T.
Obviously, I don't want to just remove it without knowing what it's doing.
Appreciate any advice.

Justin

Just as a footnote, I know that the TT is for warm down after a hard drive, but it can also have it's control duration increased in minutes and I plan to start the car, activate the timer then remove the keys, thus allowing me to re-secure the car whilst it's running, warming up for my return to it in it's secure undercover car park, so that when I get in to leave work, it's already some degree nearer optimum operating temp so I don't get dusted by all the other drivers who batter past me usually whilst I'm still warming up. In particular a bmw who likes to drive up my chuff then blast past me almost daily.
Cheers

some of the later saffs were emission based before the 92 green top was released, so id guess its that mate, if you disconnect it you may get fuel vapour smell

Will that be the worst of my side effects, or am I chancing an explosive environment under the bonnet by taking away that control?

the carbon canister catches fuel vapour from the fuel tank when switched off, and re burns them when the engine is started,
you can just vent the tank to atmosphere

there should be a one way valve there iirc, so the canister doesnt see any boost pressure as it would blow it to bits lol

if its there i would leave it and tee into the dump valve hose
