Question Bubbly water...

Hey, I recently had a head gasket done on my s2 escort rust turbo. It was boiling up previously as the gasket was blown into the cylinder/water jacket and a test determined that gasses were escaping into the coolant system. However I have had the gasket changed and the water is still bubbling furiously in the expansion tank. I have noticed the expansion tank has cracked on the rim half way around the cap. Is this likely to be why the water is going crazy? It doesnt do it immediately, has to be driven around for a bit. I have a new expansion tank arriving tomorrow, but if anyone can answer my question it would be great. Would running too little boost be a cause of this as I turned it down on the actuator to 9psi due to the gasket being fooked. Usually its around 11-13 psi. ta.

nothing to do with boost , sounds like it still has overheating issues, does it have proper coolant in it?bled correctly, job done by someone who knows what they are doing? and is the rest of the cooling system in good order? i.e water pump, thermostat, rad etc.

You may just need a new header tank and/or tank cap !

A cooling system maintains a higher water boiling point by allowing it to run a higher pressure. If the cap is leaking, it cant keep the pressure and the water will boil sooner.
If you do change this first, please get a new cap and not a second hand one that will probably have the same issue.

oops, i misread, simon is correct about the tank/cap situation, whether that fixes youre issues is another matter, replace them and check it, if it still has issues you need to check the things mentioned above.

Thanks people, this has to be the most friendly forum I have ever written on. I have a new cap, just the header tank to wait for. Ill replace the thermostat and have a gander at the water pump. Its running nice for having new seals on the engine, bit high idling speed. Im on a second year body repair course so the wheel arches at the back will be this summer. Thanks again

Have you checked the wire that goes to the sender? They often corrode!
