Simples really ive got some deciding to do and as always the debate rages on between black and moonstone (the two 3 doors for sale on here) im not going to go there.
However i can buy a nice enough saff 2wd but every man and his dogs owned it in the last 2 weeks lol or i can get one of the two 3 doors on here that both look excellent.
One thing i do want to know though and maybe it will divide opinion is What HANDLES better.
Why spend double to have a 3 door? ive never owned or driven a 3 door but i have been in a few.
Is there anyone on here thats had both and if could choose again would choose a saff.
All im thinking is if the saff drives the same being 2wd i may aswell go with that as its half the price.
cheers guys.
Oh and whats better black or moonstone. (i prefer white)

Sorry mate but you live near london ,not a race track

I really cant see why you beat yourself up over handling. a 3 door will handle well with decent shocks and decent tyres (not 25 year old d40's) there for the trailer boys . Also a decent set of bushes would help as chances are the standard ones will be fooked
Yes the 3 door is more money and tbh they always will be . They look better and they a great car to own if you look after it .
And as for colour you are a nightmare . if you like white wait for a white one to come up for sale .

Unless both cars are COMPLETELY factory standard this argument is a bit irrelevant.
What you can say is that the Sapphire is stiffer platform as standard and the 3-door hubs offer a turn-in/roll centre advantage over a 4-door 2wd.
Just as an aside, for whatever reason, when they tested these cars on tracks new in the road tests, the 2wd Sapphires ALWAYS bettered the 3-door track times....only by about a second or so .
Road testers of the time said the 4-door was less twitchy at the limit, more stable under braking and slightly more confidence inspiring. THEIR words NOT mine by the way.
Sapphires ran stiffer springs all round, shocks that were softer in bump but stiffer in rebound and a thicker rear ARB.
Having said that, most of the cars for sale have been modded anyway in the suspension department so mostly the above won't apply

as said above by mike in std trim the saph is better but with the right mods the 3 door is better,iv owned litterally loads of both and of course the saph is better value for money but the 3door is more rewarding if you do the right mods..
The only problem your have is if you get a nice 3 door youl never want to use it for the fear of damaging it,it then becomes more of a garage toy..
So the moral to the story is if you want a nice ussable cossie that you wont be frightened to use and drive hard then get a nice saph,if you want a lovely looking piece of history that you wont rag around a track then get a 3 door...
The time you keep your motors for it wont matter anyway!!!
cheers danny

personally for handling and general driving confidence i prefered the saph by a long way, my 3 door was a twitchy bitch above 150. 3 doors look sooo much better though.
When you have the suspension and geometry right they handle great and on a track better than any saph when right but when not quite right they arent as forgiving as the saph and are horrid...
cheers danny
