thats your problem then. Had this a few times myself with new headlights.

For some strange reason the new replacement 3dr headlights were fitted with the later saff internal looms which dont match the 3dr main loom.

Either swap out the little looms in the new headlights with the ones from the old set ( easy to do) or you have to rewire the new looms to suit.

I did it a few years ago so cannot remember which wires you need to splice, but there is a thread on here somewhere explaining what to do, I will see if I can find it

i fixed both the cars with the problem by following the link. i think its a blue and green wire off the top of my head without looking at them.
it is on the driver side multiplug. also check the fuses because i did the wiring on the second car and still had a fault until i realised it blew a fuse too. let me know how it goes

They also get MASSIVELY brighter if you run relays and power wires/earth to each light unit, can hide the relays in the light shells, this is what I did with my xr4i my dads 4i and my sapphy, makes a big difference, as rid the car of high 20+ year old resistances, using just the std supply to trip the relays.
I used 1 dip and 1 main beam one each side for safety, so if a problem on 1 dip you still have 1 dip working.
Use some Philips Extreme H4 bulbs too.
