It's actually been set up by Norwich Union in a bid to help younger drivers. I think you will find the £1 per mile is based on driving at the time of day (or night - I wasn't really listening properly) that is statistically proven to be the worse time for 18-21 year olds to have an accident.

The policy is also designed for people who do particularly low miles. The idea is that why should someone of identical risk (age / car wise) who does 2,000miles a year pay the same as someone who does 20,000 miles a year?

Do a search on Google for Norwich Union car insurance news, I'm sure it will give a better explanation than I just have....

I think you'll find it's just an option and it's aimed at people who do very little miles. It's a great idea. Mine spent half the time in the garage. I doubt it's £1 per mile but a certain amount per mile.

how they gonna tell how many miles you done?

i can see some clocked cars coming soon

fukk paying £1 per mile, you only get a £600 fine and 6 points for driving with no insurance

it would work out loads more expensive, they must know that younger people drive more, and usually later at night...so its not reducing the cost of insurance for them at all...

20 miles per week is £80 per month so £960 a year for 2240 miles (including free off peak ones)

40 miles per week is £160 a month so £1920 a year for 3280 miles (including free off peak miles)

So who can honestly say they think this is good value? This will indeed be a very good money making scheme for norwich union and whoever came up with the idea deserves promotion.

£1 a mile - what a load of sensationalist crap!

Stupidest thing I ever heard. Some journolist spent too long in the pub one lunchtime and dreamt up this bollocks.

My 100E has cost me £160 to insure in the last year, in that time it has moved 0.0001 of a mile and that was from one side of the workshop to the other!
so yes it would be a good thing on that policy!!

It's only £1 a mile between 11pm and 6am, every other time it would be between 6 and 10 pence iirc.
