Default What plugs on msd 380

What plugs does everyone use on the msd 380 chip, when mine comes on boost it misfires at about 15 psi of boost, then seems to pass through it.
At the moment i have NGK IRIDIUM BKR9EIX
thanks matt

I run the ford 071's. Very good plug, cheap also. Iridiums are ok, I just find they are to easy to ruin if your car hasn't been set up recently or if they get coked up they've had it. 071's tend to give a slightly larger margain for error.

Wasted spark is another gimmick, there masses of much more powerful turbo cars using std coils, although you do get a healthier spark a iggy system in decent order shouldn't have any problem, the problem is the ford coil on the cossie wasn't decent to start with.
I'd fit aftermaket coil first, incidentally coilpack came out due to COST nothing else, it was cheaper to make than a dizzy simple as that, more energy was a sideffect.
MSD blaster 2 coil will transform your car, if it's down to the coil power, easy way to see is close the gaps up, try 0.5mm, this fascination with you can run bigger gaps is you can but don't need to if working perfectly with smaller gap, larger gaps came out due to lean burn engines, as the mix was harder to ignite.

Masses eh? Name them all...

You have zero idea how hard it is to fire a spark in a huge power combustion chamber obviously.

Incidentally coilpack came out due to COST nothing else, it was cheaper to make than a dizzy simple as that, more energy was a sideffect.
Absolute rubbish, it was developed to increase the energy so we could ignite modern lean mixtures and in order to do that we need to increase the dwell time.

this fascination with you can run bigger gaps is you can but don't need to if working perfectly with smaller gap
Have you ever actually owned and worked on a big power YB cossie that will only run well with 0.5mm gaps mate? I am going to bet £50 the answer here is NO. prove me wrong and I will post you the £50.

Funny, I could have sworn you said earlier it was down to cost? LOL

Wasted spark is probably the best conversion you could do to a cosworth. I don't care what anyone says, I can say first hand that it is the mutts nuts and makes your car run alot better.

Will give the ik27s a go,I changed to a so called group a coil over a year ago,and to be honest it made no difference.I thinking about going down the wasted spark route, this surely has to be better as only one gap to jump, and more precise.

One other thing,my rev counter sometimes flys all over the place,I'm guessing its just a knackerd rev counter.Someone saw it once when i was driving the car and said the car was misfiring, but it felt fine to me,could it be a faint misfire,or is it just a dodgy counter like i think it is.also when i disconnect the king lead when turning the car over,it makes the rev counter flutter,is this normal, again i would assume so as the coil is doing no work, then when its arcing across ,in effect you are shorting out the coil,

tried them at.60, put the o71s at the mo.I have checked timing, all the other gaps, fuel pressure, all seems spot on.When i floor it,i get the omph, then when it hits 15psi it sounds like a wet fart, the power just goes,it seems to get through it,but by then the power has gone.It hits about 25 psi by then. The afr looks good,at the brief time i get to look at it between 11-12.Looked in the dizzy, and you can see arching marks on the rotor arm,and on the 4 pick up points, looks a bit whitish too.The cap was new about 1200 miles ago.

I'm personally thinking of driving over from Rome,Italy to set up my car with MSD,i fitted the wsk onto my non cosworth engine and so far i think it's ok,i'm also running iridium plugs set at .80.
I changed the old oil-filled coil with a dry version off a Lancia delta int.evo-1 but the fiat croma turbo, uno turbo versions are identical.
1 question springs to mind though, how did GGR,BBR and god knows how many other tuners back in the early nineties manage to get 400++hp
using the ancient Ford coil? and all the group A sierras?

It might be more appealing if it was not such a rip off price, but then you are a business at the end of the day, like the dubious CL!
It certainly isn't a cure all for any spark problems that you may encounter, that's the point I was trying to make, but then I don't have a vested interest, or try to be an arse licker like a lot do, neither do I have the attitude I can't be wrong stu.
It's a public forum, not all will agree with you, or me or anyone else, it's up to other people what they think.
The day I take this site(or any other)seriously is the day I turn the computer off.
Personally if I owned a big power cossie it would be a YB sitting in there, I think £ V BHP at v high levels there are many more capable reliable options.

LOL. How do you work out its a rip off? Which part of this kit is a rip off in your opinion?

like the dubious CL
Yeah, anything that every manufacturer on the planet fits to every car on the planet for the last 20 years must be a real dubious technology. Your comments really are amazing at times mate. Ha Ha.

Ah, well you failed miserably.
How exactly do you think that saying "Wasted spark is another gimmick," conveys to readers that it "may not cure all spark related problems."? Wasted spark is a technology, not a bandaid mate.

update.....i removed spark plugs,re fitted in end of leads, all sparking, removed spark plugs from leads, turned garage lights off, sparks flying out everywhere(all the leads). Is this just happening because the spark has no where to go,but through the leads. The spark from the king lead on its own is about an inch long.

if the sparks are escaping from all over the leads and not just from the plug end of the lead to the nearest earth then i would say your leads are fooked mate!

all sorted,it was fuel pump,i was getting a 1.5 volt drop to the fuel pump, ran a new cable straight from the battery.I would never of thought it would have made that much difference. It was even reading between 11-12 on the afr gauge before i fixed it.

Sounds like a wiring fault to me to be honest.
How is your loom wired up, just the standard setup? In a normal cossie there are 3 multiplugs for the loom in the engine bay and these cause all manner of issues from time to time which leads to most people cutting out the connectors and soldering the wires together. I suggest that you either clean up the connectors or next time you have a rev counter issue that you stop try and move the wires and plug about and see if that cures it.
I had exactly the same problem on my car for a long time, and it wasn't until i got an secs monitor that it became apparent why i had a misfire, the SECS monitor is digital and wired into the ECU, this showed double the RPM of the rev counter, and why it was misfiring. This is the first thing I'd check as it won't cost you bugger all, hope this helps.
