Default My saph cossie losing oil

For some reasion I seem to be getting through alot of oil, iv had the car up in the air and it's bone dry underneath, I never had any oil patches on the floor, I don't get any smoke on idle or boost and the engine was rebuilt jan last year. I only really use the car on weekends but iv used over 5L in the last 3 months ( I know that dont sound too bad but iv had the car 6 months and put less then 1000 miles on it)

Any sergestions or help on this would be great

Default Oil

Hi,

Cossies are known to go through an emense amount of oil, depends also what kind of oil you are using!!! Mine used to at up about 1 ltr and maybe a tad more every 1000 miles.... Depends on your spec and power your turning out. How good is your turbo? Have you also got a oil breather?

thats normal pal,you pay for fuel and oil at the same time when you own a cossie

mine uses about the same,it used 1 and a half litres in 1500 miles last year.

Also the car is about 330bhp Typical stage 3 with a brand new t3 feb last year and has a forge breather kit

everyone has their own opinions on oil, ive heard castrol isnt as good for cossies as it becomes thin when it gets hot!!! I use mobil1.

Also out of interest what grade of mobil 1 do u use as that can affect how much u go thru...........

im using mobile1 5-50 over here in gibraltar as i cant find mobile1 15-50 and for anything else they want 70 pound for a 4 litre can and with my larger sump and oil cooler a oil change will cost 100 pound so i use the mobile as its only 35 a 4.5 litre can but i would say im using 1 lt every 800-1000 miles depending how hard its driven

if your yb is using more than a litre of oil every 800-1k then there defiantly something wrong!!!a fresh engine should lose no more than half a ltr every 1k...
As for what oil iv always used at least a 15-40 but even better a 10-60 or 20-50
Valvoline racing is the best for a yb in my opinion or millers iv used castrol if i havnt been able to get my favourite...
If you got through 5 ltr in 1k in any period on a fresh engine then believe me its burning way to much oil!!!

cheers danny

Everything's virtually new on mine, so I'll put it down to needing a breather addition to the Bailey I already have....oh, and driving it short distances only

I was also going to comment along these lines but thought i would wait until someone else said it.

IMO and ive had 6 saffs and an escos 3 of them rebuilt engines i have never used anywhere near as much as 5 litres of oil in 1000 miles.

Yes they use oil but that is massively excessive IMO.

Ive used variety of oil, used to use mobil 1 in a fresh engine and never used anywhere near that, last one was silkoline and once again no where near that.

See, even having owned a cossie for 2 years.. i STILL find it horrifying that they get thru SO MUCH oil

still dont think its right.. I had my engine rebuilt cos i thought it was worn, going thru 1L every 1100 ish. lol

didnt use much after that though.
