Default Log book question. Recieved a log book to my house.

someone registered their car to my house, the name was random. Nothing special, its a mk4 golf derv but its left me confused......

who technically owns this car and what if the owner wants to sell this car at some point, how will they do it especially as im going to contact dvla about the matter.

Any info would be great.

cheers

Maybe they just want all the parking and speeding tickets to go to your house......

penalty tickets to my house is what i was thinking......

does anyone know what dvla will do about it? will that guy have a car which will not be hpi clear? cant see someone risking a car worth over 2k which it probably is.

Registering cars has always been a bit of an odd thing as you can just give random names and addresses, all my cars are in my mums name and shes never even there when i buy my cars and fill in the log section thingy.

Send it back to DVLA saying the keeper is not at this address, otherwise the tickets will come to your house and it can be a hassle dealing with them.

If he is legit, there's no doubt the proper keeper will contact the DVLA when he doesn't receive his logbook, or when he needs to tax the car. If he's hooky, at least you are protecting yourself.

Being nosy, why are your cars registered in your mum's name? We had some grief taxing eldest's car at the post office - we gave him his mums old car but didn't add him as another keeper, and he has it insured in his name so we had to buy the taxdisc online instead of at the Post Office.

Iain Mac

Its because i've had a few legal issues before where my cars were in threat of being seized and sold in auctions to recover monies.

They are actually insured as my mum the main driver and me second driver, except for my nissan...

My sister had this, but the car (range rover sport) was registered in her name, her address but nothing to do with her.

She had to contact the police and DVLA, them made a report iirc.

As said, you don't want fines or worse turning up at your door.

The logbook doesn't give you (or your mum!) any ownership of the vehicle.

Even if it did, you would have to find the car the logbook belongs to.

I don't think you need to worry about tickets/penalties as they won't be in your name.

As Iain Mac has said, send it back to DVLA saying the keeper is not at this address and nor is the vehicle. At least you have then done all that you realistically can.

and also report it to the 5-0 and they will put a flag up on the ANPR database if DVLA havent already. then it will get pulled all the time until correctly registered. A legitimate owner wont mind, a criminal might be upset but fuck em
