Default Ideas for a fast/nice daily drive??

Been looking to buy a new car in the next few months for a daily driver, I have seriously been considering an E39 M5, but starting to have doubts about whether it'll be a pain in the a$$ and a bit OTT since i don't really need it.
Had a look at some cars last weekend and I'm now thinking of opting for something more sensible and newer like an E60 530 or 4x4 or something along those lines.
Just wandered what everyone else thinks? Part of the problem is that i never have the saph out as it's always f*cked in one way or another, so if i actually had it fixed, mabye i wouldn't feel the urge to get another fast car for commuting??

What about one of the st diesel mondeos? not exactly quick but would be a good trade off between performance and economy.

Is economy an issue (the fact that you been looking at a 5.0 V8 car tells me it kind of isn't) ?

E60 530i/d, 535i/d, 540i would be a cracking motor.

Tell you what Rog,
We just sold the ST Mondy and bought a E39 320d M-Sport auto touring and it is a cracking car.

Needed an estate for the dag and this popped up at the right price.

If it's only for doing familly and work stuff then they have got to be worth a look.

Very well spec'd inc tip-tronic gears, multi function wheel etc etc.

Gives 48mpg as well which is a bonus

Defo not a FRS, not really a fan and it'd break.
Toughy, quite fancy something like that, gonna have a look next weekend, the mrs is pushing for an R32 golf, not against the idea but a BM or Audi would be first choice. Not gonna be buying anything for a couple of months so have plenty of time to look.

Or an Octavia VRs, same car, usually better specced and cheaper. Mine does 36-38 mpg on a run. Not bad for a 200bhp petrol car. Huge boot too so very practical

We actually looked at a brand new one of these last month.

Really well specced up car with extras like xenons, Met paint etc and it still came in at under Ł18K
Pretty quick as well

Only thing that put us off was that for the 1st time ever Skoda have about a 4 month waiting list.
Guy in the showroom says the sales have rocketed through the roof this year.

Not only that, most of the dealers in the west mids have waiting lists for second hand ones too

I just picked up a june 06 on with <30k miles on it and i'm very impressed at what a great specced, economical, practical and quick-ish daily drive it is. Bit of a 'stigma' attached to them, usually by folk who have never actually seen one. EVERYONE who's been in mine has got in and gone...oooh, nice spec, its like a posh golf

Thirsty and heavy IMO, in the real world about as quick as the GTi but more thirsty, so in essence pointless

Look nice mind.

I know what you mean but i'd prefer the 32 to the gti just for slightly more exclusivety (spel) and of course the noise

If it was a speed thing then fuck them off back to the m5!
