Hi Everyone,
Today I have carefully removed the loom (MFI) out of position and stripped off all of the tape. Tomorrow I will be removing the old parts of the loom so that I can replace it with the new loom I have for my coversion.
I would just like to know, if there is anyone who has done this conversion, if I basically work back from the ECU/Fuel Computer and remove all of the cables involved?
Just looking at it there seems to be a lot of browns that work back and forth throughout the loom. Will I have to stripout these or will i have to keep the earth loop intacked?
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers
Darren

I've just done mine, I've kept all the loom in, you can tuck most of it into the heater box out of the way, join up on www.oddkiddcreations.co.uk you will find a lot of usefull info there

So did you just roll back and hide the old Loom ends/Connectors that connect to each sensors?
Just think that it would look scruffy with 2 looms in position?
Sorry for loads of questions.

cut a couple of holes into the heater box,1 on each side then the loom thats not used can be rolled up and tucked inside and left intact should you ever need it again
theres pictures on that site showing how its done, I had all mine tucked away but have had to dismantle again so other wise I could have upped a picture of how it looks.
Its deffo in your intrest imo to join that site if your fitting cossie management

Get rid of the loom mate, it's not needed and looks cluttered.
Basically, cut the plugs off the fuel and engine ecu's, then remove the wires one by one, you can if you want remove them right round to the metering head but it runs all round and behind the rad, i usually just remove the loom upto the fusebox, then remove the metering head loom upto the passenger headlight leaving the dead loom just from the fusebox to the headlight. AND, leaves the original loom tape on show looking that bit more factory!

i removed all the old loom mate its not that hard once the tapes off. most of the plugs from the metering head go to the ecu plugs and then there is just some wires go the the fuse boxs. better to remove it i think for what it takes mate

Cheers for the information chaps!
I would ideally like to get rid of the old loom. I have a bit more confidence no that I can cut the loom heads off and remove the wires individually.
Gadget - I have stripped all of the loom tape off now so it is no biggie to cut out all of the metering head loom.
Cheers again,
I'll let you all know how i'm getting on tonight.

Darren dont cut any of the loom! If you ever want to put it back to std S1 looms are not easy to find. If you sell the car the next owner may want to go back so dont cut anything!
Listen to the advise some have given you and do the research on the links given.

When in the garage this morning I couldn't bring myself to do it. I have removed the loom, it's taken all morning but I have done it very neatly only had to cut when very necessary. I reconnected the cut as soon as it was free from the birds nest of the loom. I have neatly coiled it all up and kept it stored so that If i need to can revert back to it. Also taken lots of pictures to keep if i need to go back to mfi or a future owner?
Links have been looked at and found very helpful
im in the process of doing the conversion on my zvh rst and have removed the unused loom but only as i have a mint series 2 mfi loom to fit or sell with the car, With it been a series 1 i would think keeping it intact wouldnt be such a bad idea.
Could i ask a few questions as your doing yours at the moment, When fitting the cossie throttle body to the efi inlet 3 of the bolts line up but the 4th one doesnt plus the throttle position sensor sits very close to the rocker cover, am i right in thinking i need to get the lip on the inlet machined flat to make room for the body and redrill and tap the 4 screw holes or is there another way of doing it?Maybe turn the tps round 180 degrees?
Plus i am using an mfi head and the adaptor plate so the inlet screws dont work and will need replacing, did you have this problem?
cheers adam

throttle body needs modding
Inlet studs, I extended the thread on the orig studs on my s2 engine and had to make up another couple of studs from threaded bar

Thanks for all of the advice from everyone. All of the mechanical work is complete. I'm just about to intorduce the new half of the loom into the car.
I will be positioning the ECU within the glove box and running the loom out around the engine bay. Before I begin to position the cables I was wondering if anyone could help me out with confirming the connections behind the dash?
I have 3 connections that come from a series of Relays (which i'm assuming will be the new Fuel Pump Relay set up?). The three cables colours are as follows;
1. Red
2. Blue
3. Black
There is also a smaller Black cable that runs into a connection block?
I will post a picture up when I get home tonight as it wont let me from work.
But thinking about it I would assume the following;
1. Red - Fuel Pump?
2. Blue - Ignition?
3 Black - ? Thought about negative. However there is a negative terminal further on down the loom which will be under the bonnet and go to the battery.
Small Black Cable - Rev Counter?
Cheers

when you say red, blue and black do you mean on the cossie loom, as there is a 6 plug on the cossie loom that you just wire into, i got a plug to fit it so i didnt have to cut it and wired it direct.
If the looms are much the same as the series 2 then black is a switched live, not a ground as the browns are ground.

It came with the Conversion I bought of a lad (Cressy) on the S1 Forum. I think Ryan charges upwards of Ł350 but don't take my word for it.
His website is www.carloomsuk.co.uk i think?
