MK2 Fiesta XR2 How much should I pay?
Hi,
Im currently in the middle of sourcing a Mk2 XR2 to start a track project, I've just been told of one that is very local which is for sale. Just looking for some kind of ball-park figure I should be willing to pay if anyone can help.
The car is a 1988, Black and has been stood in a garage for a couple of years.
Chassis is clean but needs some floor welding.
Engine described as "OK", this I'm not too worried about as it will be getting a full rebuild
Mileage unknown but I expect it to be around the 80k mark (original engine)
I understand this is not alot of information but any advice would be greatly appreciated

but going tell me how your going to break a xr2 to Ł1000 please ?
XR2 owners, will say it's worth loads. But thats because they over estimate the value of their cars. If it needs any welding whatsoever, don't pay anything more than say, 3 or 400 quid. Becuase, if there's 'some' rust, you can bet your house that fairly soon there will be 'alot' of rust.
These cars were fun when you could buy a tidyish one for 800 quid and thrash about in it. But fuck paying 2 grand for one, as they are SHITE to drive, don't handle that well and rust quicker than a 70's Lancia...... Millions of better options out there.

BTW, I have owned alot of these cars. I await the backlash from the XR2 owners

They are getting expensive now, and there's not many good ones around. I used to buy and sell these in years gone by and they do rot like mad, so there'll be some right old rubbish out there now. There is the odd diamond in the rough, but they're big money for what they are I reckon. I've always liked them though, great fun.
ive had approx 15 xr2's only cars ive had in ten years, only 5 on the road tho,and will brake for around 1k all day, breaking one atm and have had Ł500 ish back so far and still plenty left to sell
dissagree on the crap handeling comment you can ask anyone in our championship xr2s are the ultimate handling race car out of its class as prooved in our championship and there has been saxos,Novas,Escorts,Swifts,205gti. still now like cadwell the xr2 are just awesome its only because the vtrs have better straight line speed that there used more now and also there hard to come by. i sold my xr2 for 2k last year and it was just a xr2 with a cage but i suppose it did have ledas on.

I'm not saying it doesn't handle well for it's class you doofus
Of course it handles well for it's class, thats why they put cars in 'classes'..... It's to stop people buying VASTLY superior cars and pumping all the boys and girls in their fiestas
This is comparing the humble little XR2, which was great in it's day, with the other cars in it's price bracket
2 grand was the figure I mentioned, and go look at what else you get for your 2k.....
Alot better than a FWD fiesta you can hear rusting

Thats a bit of a daft statement Rab, the Xr2's class is obv small hot hatch and they are known as being one of the best in terms of handling, so if its the best in its class and its class is the best for handling, erm... What are you driving these days? havent seen you on xrtwo.com in a while, have you gotten posh?
Sorry chaps, I have gone all sensible and got a povery spec Toyota Avensis
And surprisingly, that will out handle a standard XR2 all day long....
They are fun cars, just not worth anywhere near the money they are selling for. Considering you can now buy a Mk5 Zetec-S for less than an XR2 that hasn't got 27 fist sized holes in it, it makes no sense! A Z-S will drive much better too!
I see XR2s selling for 4 grand and I think that people aren't spending that because the car is amazing, it's becuase they are re-living a memory....
For track purposes, unless you have a hard-on for small FWD fords, spend your money on something better to start with.
not trying to pick arguments rab but mk5 fiesta 1.6 are shit for racing and tried and tested in Stock hatch and tintops and couldnt get anywere near a Xr2 apart from Snetterton were straight line speed is all you need.
Mate. You are talking about racing cars. The lad that started this post is trying to buy a rotten XR2 to turn into a track car. The point I am trying to make is not that XR2s are shite, and a Z-S is amazing. What I trying to point out is that when your buying a track toy, and costs are an issue, don't spend over the odds on a rusty old Mk2 fiesta that really doesn't handle that well! Ledas and a few grand of race prep will obviously change that, but he's not going to do that is he?
He wants something that he can enjoy on track, and obv don't want to spend over the odds. I was merely suggesting that his money would be better spent on a different car, as then less money will be required to make it enjoyable. I do speak from experience. I threw money at my XR2s and got pumped round the twisties by standard Audis while I scrabbled around trying to make the front wheels grip!
And I don't consider this to be an argument, more of a lively debate amongst like-minded individuals.
