If you are looking to buy one for the 5k you mention for your S1 (I assume that was a joke but its only figure mentioined) then its got to be a RWD one really, you will only get a right dog of a 4wd one for that.

My ex had a GTST and it was a great car.

as chip states get a gtst for that money, 5k gtr would be a money pit imo. If i was you i'd drive a few different cars in your price range see what you prefer.

Or just buy a GT-R and have done with it?
5k on a great GTST and 2k to run it...

or

8k on a std GTR (which is slow) and save up to run it!

Cam belt kits is about £160
HG is about 200 for a metal gasket
water pump is over 100

Its a japanese car with higher parts prices than a ford... Its not millions for but its more.

Fuel economy is going to be 20-25mpg fairly regardless of power, tuning or even 4wd.

Or fo 8K if you can stick the image you can have an awesome scooby, you get so much more for the money than an evo really because their residuals are so shocking.

You can even get a half decent P1 for that now:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p

But if you are looking modern you can get up to about a 2006 car in reasonable order for as little as 8K
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...1500?logcode=p

And thats just standard cars, the modified ones go for pennies too, so if you keep an eye out for long enough you will find a hell of a car for 8K.

For a slightly cheaper alternative, still sticking to the same guide have a look at some s14a/s15's.
Mine's about 280bhp, fairly nippy and will still get 35mpg on a run!

Just looking all over to go jap fast reliable and not gonna cost the fort knox to run it

I have done my share on my S1 of wasting money now tbh!

How about a audi S4 340 bhp on exhaust and a remap, couple of k04 turbo's big front mount will see very close to 500bhp

and remain extremely reliable (a freind of mine had one at 440 bhp and failed to break anything) Doug at MRC is the man when it comes to tuning them reckons the engines are bullet proof amongst the best audi have ever produced

My mate has a R33 GTS-T...apparently they aren't the most tuning friendly cars turbo's (from what I been told and heard) are not very good on them and ECU on a R33 GTS-T isn't easy to remap or can't be remapped or something therefore for over 300bhp its major wonga or at least that's what I am led to believe.

Sorry mate but thats tosh

S1, have a gander on sxoc.com, plenty of decent examples for sale on there. The milage thing isn't an issure really if the car has been looked after.

I'll ask him when I next see him then to confirm but pretty sure that's what he told me. What is the standard turbo good for on these then?

Standard Turbo is limited to 1 bar, as is standard afm, injectors, pump or there abouts iirc (safely).

Mine is running rs500 spec turbo, uprated fuel pressure,SAFC,front mount, cone filter, full stainless, larger afm. Guessing around 400Bhp

Can get 28mpg average if behave too.

only my opion but go for the gtr as they are best of both worlds they are 90% rwd untill the loose grip then switch to 4wd same when cornering and if only looking for the 400bhp mark they will not be far of that with just exhaust and boost upgrade to 1 bar which standard turbos will run ive had my r32 now for just over a year and never missed a beat cheers
