I would just lay some speaker cable in there flat figure of 8 type so you can use LED strip.
These are a LOT cheaper, I did this in me mum/dads kitchen, cost was Ł20 for 2 strips from deal extreme mostly white with a tiny hint of blue, looks ace on thiers as they have blue flint tiles, worksurfaces, can run these from ians with a resistor and a diode, or easier just but a 220-12v adaptor and plug in, last forever(100,000+ hours).

You get a brighter, more uniform light with the flourescents.
I've got exact same lights as second pic. They do look better, but you dont really see them anyway and the light is no where near as good.

Hope this helps.

Depends what you want it for.

Task lighting, go for the fluorescent.

Accent lighting, go for LED strips as mentioned above or this stuff from IKEA that changes colour [I have it in my home cinema set-up]:

Its more for lighting when working in the kicthen as the spot lights in the ceiling cause dark spots under the cabinets esp if you are standing there.

Dont fit spots under the units if thats the case. They dont give enough spread of light for working IMO.

Flourecent gets my vote, the light is more uniformed than it is with spots as they are close to the surface so you get bright and dark spots
