Beckham is a great player, but there's simply better, quicker players out there that can fill his boots equally if not better. Would be great to see him play once again, but England need to actually start thinking about lifting a trophy for a change.

imo there are better players - but he was never been a player as such , not quick , not a brilliant tackler , or mega skillful - but theres not many if any who can cross a ball like him.. the balls he put over at united last week were still awesome ... deserved a place simply for his right foot .

Yes, he would not have started but what a player to have on the bench for the last half hour or so. He was the best Milan player (not hard I know) last week, and looked good in the last few England games.

Like I said.....England aren't any better or getting closer to winning the cup, so why be ignorant about it? But o.k. I can see why you should be proud of an arogant mediochre team, instead of either a shit or awsome one

 

The media and press will have a field day because he's the Brad pit of world football with all his wealth, being more famous for his face/advertising than his feet, the Posh and Becks thing and that the public love him. But other than that he's just a squad player, an aging one who's best days are long behind him and isn't much of a loss to us. The way the media are going on its as if we've lost Rooney or Gerrard or Barry, Rio, Terry etc.

That said I'd still take him so he can come on at 75 minutes towards the end just for his free kicks and crossing in case we can't create in other ways. The RM place is far from nailed down but you can't argue that SWP, Milner, Lennon (if fit), Walcott or even Young are better options. Plus Beckham seems to do better when he's coming from a sub rather than start, like in some of the recent England games and the United v Milan second leg. He was poor when he started in the San Siro which was the leg in which Milan were good and could have been 3-0 up. At Old trafford he was ALWAYS going to do some thing well as he's waited for it for years. Shame for David to miss out on the finals but not too much of a loss for us.
