Default apple iphone from usa

Been looking at the 16gb iphone on the american apple website as a friend of mine is going to america soon, they want $199 which is about £131 for one compared to the uk version at £349, i was wondering if anyones knows if it will work ok here in the uk as ive checked the tech spec on both the uk and usa webs,
uk,
Cellular and wireless
  • UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
  • Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
usa,
Cellular and wireless
  • UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
  • Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless technology
so should work ok ?

That will be on contract price.

Apple products are VERY similar priced in the USA to the UK off contract.

You can't buy PAYG iPhone's in the US : only on contract, and only on AT&T. So if you want to buy the phone, and pay a 2yr contract to AT&T, then yes, you can unlock it (jailbreak and unlock) then yes, it will work.

They will very simply say "Buy one in the UK"

Also bear in mind that Apple warranty isn't worldwide. So any iPhone, iMac, MacBook etc, purchased in the US isn't automatically covered by warranty over here

I tried to buy one in Florida in November last year, and as above those cheap prices are only for contracts in the USA, and you have to have a US bank account and address, to get one, so you cant just take out a contract to get the phone.

Otherwise the prices are very similar to the UK's and you won't get the warranty.
