Default focus rs thermostat housing driving my mate insane

my mate has a standard focus rs and when he first bought it it needed a new thermostat housing then 4 mnths later another and finally last week he was drivin up the road and suddenly engine temp light came on closely followed by enggine management got back home after the car struggled to pull 30 mph and steam galore under the bonnet and pissed all its coolant out ! is there anything anyone knows wot to he can do to get shut of the crappy plastic thermostat housing or is it this could it be water pump ???
the car is now at ford getting looked at ! some guy on another forum said he might of warped the block !!! head gasket etc

any ideas wot could be at fault with it to keep overheating !!!

also when its cold the fans kick in almost straight away and its just been fired up from overnight WHY

Theres a bloke on the RSOC forum that sells aluminium housings. They're not cheap but certainly cheaper than an engine rebuild!

this is a common problem on the focus rs and the st170.
i know 3 people who have had this problem, 1 of them has had it crack a few times

as already said there are aluminium replacements on offer.

Cheaper than the alloy jobs, and stronger than standard units....just got mine delivered.

Indeed... my ST170 need a new one!! Was quoted £85 for the whole job & parts to replace it, not sure if it's a good price.

the orig plastic ones are crap, the front cover is only held on with 3 screws in a triangle pattern so the clamping pressure is useless, when i had mine i changed the whole unit straightaway and never had any more problems with it,a lot of folk just change the housing then refit the orig front cover which distorts and warps out of shape

Thanks. I'm not sure to get the job to go ahead or I buy the alloy ones and fit that.
