P8 Wasted Spark, which is best p8 or l8??
Hi folks, Recently purchased one of MSD wasted spark kits for my Escos, like an idiot i didnt check the ecu in my car first, Turns out my ECU is P8?

On the board which has the chip on, it has Pectel Super P8 on it, as the instructions with the kit state L8 etc, i obviously didnt try to fit it. Does anyone know if you can, if not how do i coil pack my car, using this ecu?

Also whats the difference between L8 and P8? which is best?

I think you need to speak to Stu or James as you know they get on this board.

I think the P8 has the driver for a coil pack so really you don't need your board, you could ebay it though mate.

Yeah been trying to Google it all, but it seems the P8 has alot of the functions already, mines Super 8, again not sure on the differences, im Gonna ring Stuart Monday and pick his brains cos theres just way too many different Ecus in the world!!!

Im going to the garage now to look longingly at my MK1 Escort, thinking of points and condensers and all things simple!!

Yes the P8 has a lot more functions over the L8 ecu and certainly does have the coilpack driver installed already in the P8 ecu as standard.

The P8 can be configured as wastedx spark by the tuner who calibrated your current ECU chip. However, this will leave the tacho running at 1/2 speed if it is currently running from the conventional coil wiring.

The WS driver you purchased can be fitted to P8 no problem if you wish to, just drop an e-mail to sales@remapping.co.uk asking for the P8 installation instructions and the instructions to switch the driver into P8 mode.
