Default What's happened to the good old PF?

This place has become no fun at all to use.... hardly a ford related topic in Gd, everyone seems out to "get" each other? So many rules it is ridiculous, people "grassing" on each other for any Tiny little thing like posting links of cars for sale ( imas porsche), I really do feel that this board has totally disappered up it's own ass

The modding USED to be very liberal, yet kept things in hand IMHO, recently it just seems to be ott and draconian.... Real shame, as this used to be a great site, but if it carrys on like this I can't see it lasting long.

Awaiting incoming.......

Yes and no...... There have been a few bans recently but don't forget Phil and Dave have been allowed back too.

As for Ford discussion, there's plenty of specific stuff in the relevant rooms! I like the variety of GD.

There is still good info on here, but its now a smaller percentage of posts due to the influx of users who arent actually particuarly interested in cars, which has really waters the site down.

In the early days this site was a place where people learnt information that you couldnt find anywhere else on the net easily at that time, things like the info Stu gave about mapping etc, but these days that stuff is all massively in the public domain anyway, so sadly the focus has shifted from being a really useful technical resource with unique information more towards being a chat site that people use at work to kill time.

I dont believe that is the fault of the mods like you are implying though, its just the nature of the way that the net has changed in the last 7 years in general.

I think there are probably less of the Fords that we like in daily use and some of the newer stuff that people now buy and use like Focus ST, Mondeo ST, Focus RS have their own dedicated boards.

Many people who used to own RS Turbos/Cosworths etc have moved onto newer cars like BMWs, Subarus, Evos, Skylines and find there are more populated boards than here for their new car related stuff so they tend to post their car stuff over there and save this for general everyday chat

You really are a very insightful and intelligent person.... and you put your point of view across so clearly and eloquently!

I find them so refreshing to read!

apart from when you are arguing! I don't read those ones!

I'm here purely for the love of all things Ford, nothing else. Always have been, always will.

If I get caught up in conversation about other things, or wish to ask a question about something completely different which I think someone on here may be able to provide assistance with then so be it.

Err, thanks I guess!

That sounds even more inteligent than anything I can come up with though so I think you over estimated me

You missed the best bit then IMHO, 2003-2005 was certainly the best time for this site, I used to really enjoy it back then, you just couldnt ever come on here and not find some really interesting technical discussion in progress at that point.

We still do get some interesting techy stuff going on though on this site from time to time (if it doesn't break out into an argument first and then the usual tuner wars, Rod wading in with his figures, kosman started it etc..)

I caught the end of the proper banter when I joined, is a shadow of all that now must say

Everything gets all heavy and dumped on by the same people needing their 2p, either too serious or swilling about.

As per my initial post, we have always had both techy stuff and social stuff, and we still do have, but the percentage of each has shifted.

Also we now have situations where certain users have developed strong feelings about other users and let that interfere with the quality of their posts I think too, often I see people arguing not because they feel strongly about a point but rather because they feel strongly about the person who is making it, the moment that happens, the users doing so are dragging the forum down with their own personal issues IMHO.
Its a shame more people cant be more objective in their posts I reckon, but then maybe other people feel totally the opposite and actually like being part of cliques etc in the first place
For a perfect example go and look at my thread about our workshop, loads of utter wallys with nothing whatsoever useful to say desperately trying to just jump on a bandwagon and bitch for the sake of it even though what they are saying isnt even accurate just because they dont like the fact that in the past Ive corrected them on something or they didnt like my mannerisms or whatever so they see someone saying something against me and decide to join in, if it was another users thread many of their inputs would have been different, where as persoally I just give an honest and accurate representation of my real opinion in all cases when I reply and never let such trivia as personal feelings come into it to any great extent as I place some value on my own integrety, where as other users clearly do not.
But if you have the right attitude to the threads like that and only bother to visit such sideshows when you have time to kill in work or whatever, even they can be useful.
So I think a lot of the time that what people get out of this forum is in people's control as if they dont like something, they should simply not bother with it and go and read something they do like instead.

Full of idiots now tbh even more hate for me cause i talk about my cars as i am a petrolhead. Used to be good before chip came here, the reason i say this is because his intelligence on cars has put all debates useless as he always knows the correct answer in the past debates and differing opinions were great. Tuners wont post technical threads now due to different camps slagging each other off. Plus every issue has been discussed many times over.

It must be quite a sad world that you live in where because you have never had anyone respect you in your entire life that you feel the need to accuse people of brown nosing everytime they show someone else some respect.

I do genuinely feel quite sorry for you being in that position, but perhaps you could try and find a better way to handle your jealousy though whenever you see someone else receive any sort of respect or positive feedback on here, as per my post above its when people let their own personal problems and insecurities get involved that threads tend to really go downhill.

I think its cause its only ever YOUR cars you want to talk about that makes certain people dislike you, so you seem very self focussed where as most of us petrol heads into cars on here are interested in other peoples cars too TBH mate

How do you give an honest and accurate representation of your opinion without personal feeling, unless you're plaguerising completely the personal feelings of someone else?

You worded it well but bit of a paradox.

Thing is when most people have the need to chirp up on 'correction' or 'interference' aspect of things it's on huge communal threads that could just be left unread but then it's to the point that threads don't just get avoided it's a forum precedent.

without being effected by any personal feelings about the person I'm replying to I was saying.
Ie I would give the same reply to a comment irrelevant of who made it.

So anti-equalisation....but then you're only ever talking from a moral viewpoint? posh layman?

Problem is there's only so long you can talk externally without sounding really pretentious, like assuming you've got the right to make that inclined observation on people, then if they agree you can bask in the enlightenment or disagree their blissfully ignorant. Long as you can word it well it's win/win, fair play lol...

I have to agree with all of Wil's and chips comments here

As for Phil and his "hate" comment, I for one feel nothing but pity for what he used to be and what he has become..

Nail on the head !

The sad thing about all this is that the people running the site see never see anyones point of view but their own and consider anyone who dares to point out these things as "troublemakers"

Why should they care what we think while the money is rolling in ?

Would love to know the mods reason for moving this thread, to the POLICIES and PROBLEMS post.

That means they either think that there IS a problem with PF, or they think there is a policy responsible for changing it surely?

If that is the case, can they not change what the policy at fault is back please rather than just move threads about it

Called sweep it under the carpet.... I have absolutly no problem with the site making money, well done for creating somthing of value, but I just don't like the way the site has gone recently, as chip was saying the tech discussions on here were second to none, and there was lots of friendly banter.
