Default old cars are they worth it

does anybody ever look at theyre old motor .cossie, rs turbo ,5 turbo etc and think foook this ..like when they dont run properly spot little bits of rust and all that ..dont yoo get disheartend ....you can buy new cars that are the same speed with comfort and much more anyway ....i still will always love classic motors more ....

but what do you go for in this example

Your less likely to lose money on an older car. Buy the right one and it could even go up in value.

True, but evo's are everywhere now. If 1 drive's by you you dont even take a second look. Cant say that about an escos

Every day mate, every day. Have possibly the oldest sierra rally car on earth.....

Everything is made of unobtainium

All parts are cut from bits of the forth bridge, then welded to anvils.

Futile attempts to jack the car up will only result in burying the jack.

Show any piece of metal on it to either oxygen or h2o and it reverts to it's former life as a cadburys flake.

Rubber was invented.. after my car.
Climb into your tumble dryer then roll down a hill in it on a skateboard, you will be more cofortable than I am when driving! And yes we will both be pushing them back up the hill.

Mine was the prototype for all wheel steer, but ford engineers don't like to take credit for inventions they didnt intend!

It was designed using quantum mechanics, meaning that theft will ensure you never see it, but broken parts and leaking oil means you will always know where it's been.

The original ford DFA button still works.

All threaded bolts are sublimiarly connected, tightening one will losen several unrelated ones on the other end of the car.

The only thing that travels faster than the water leaking in the roof, is the water leaking out of the floor.

I actually envy cosworth road car drivers their reliability

But no, I wouldn't swap for anything else

Evo's do not drive themselves, nor do they do everything for you. Remove the standard diff from the evo and replace with an rs version. You are left with the same setup as an escos. 4 wheel drive and a rear diff with no ayc. The chassis as standard is better on the evo. To get an escos round the track with an evo equal to its setup and power, will require more driver participation, bigger balls and possibly more driver talent.

Baz loved reading your reply! Lol

i dont own one of these really worth it classic cars, but to me an old classic that you dont see very often on the road is definately worth it!! At least you feel like your actually "driving" it, compared to all these new cars where it seems everything is done for you, like all the luxuries of city power steering and cruise control...yeah dont get me wrong they are great, but your not having to "drive" the car its doing all the hard work for you...and that hard work is so worth it when ya driving a "real" car!!

I think you share a bond with an old classic, you cherrish it. You expect it from them.

New cars just drive, no hassle no fuss, but you dont get that bond.

you havnt owned a car with power steering before lol? fuck that.

personally.
i think old cars are nice, if you get a minter for example a lovly rs500 etc etc.
only trouble is you cant use them every day, well you cna but they get rusty, not as reliable, nt as safe etc.
so if your using it every day and want something powerful i think a evo etc is the best bet if you want it to be safe relible etc.
dont get me wrong i love old rs's and the new ones, but personally i think there to old to be sued every day in the rain etc etc

yeah its the looks and comments that makes it worth it-most of all though is when you show a more modern expensive car a thing or two

Not sure I agree with any of that. Any car will be unreliabel if its not maintained correctly, Cosworths, Evo's etc. Why do you think Evo's need to be serviced every 4.5k ??

As for which is more nickable I guess it depends on the thieving scum bag but if you put a Cossie & an Evo side by side in a NCP I'd put money on the Evo not being there the next day.

Second that!! I thought i had cured every single bloody rattle, squeak, vibration and buzz possible to have in a car, but they've all slowly worked their way back in, one by one and brought more in with them.

I own 6 cars..

My 1990 Uno Turbo and 1988 Turbo converted Mr2 are by far the most fun/most rewarding to drive..

New cars just dont do it for me!

New cars don't do it for me. My company car is an Abarth 500 Essesse which is a nice tidy car, its quick, got leather and aircon, still turns heads, but would I sell my MK4 ERST and MK3 XR3 to buy one? No I wouldn't. Would I sell them for another new car? No I wouldn't. Would I sell them for a 3 Door or MK1/2 Escort? Yes I would! Maybe I'll grow up one day and want something newer, but I love pulling into a petrol station etc in a 28/22 year old car and people coming over to me saying wow that car looks good for it's age. Don't see many of those about these days.

i prefer old cars, it's better to be different from the masses, having older cars can be frustrating but when they're working the enjoyment is greater than from newer cars, i would love a new focus rs, but couldn't justify the depreciation that all new cars suffer,

steve 4i -so of us young guns do know a good car when we see them, im 16 and wave at most old fords i see and the odd other car too and to see the owner waving back is awsome and i always take a pic when i see one parked up in a petrol station. (or are they broke down? )

i think working on them is part of the fun of owning them because you know for the 2 months it works its amazing and you get looks modern car owners can only dream of.

does anyone think evos/scoob/skylines will become proper cared for classics and really rare?

i dont think theyll ever be like the cars of the 80's

EVO = 4wd = tractor, same as 4wd cossie, 2wd rule!!
I don't know why people insist on having breakdowns, my sapph has 180,000+ on the bottom end, doesn't miss a beat, good mpg, ace emissions 0.97 % CO on mot, no adjustement for mot this is normal running.

I get what your saying as i have a escos and an st-2, the st is great but it's not an escos. Im carefull where i park though as i dont like dents in either of my cars. The escos turns more heads and i get lots of comments too, mostly good.
