Underside & Engine Bay Restoration Q's
I have been following the other topic titled ' Underbody Methods' closely, however have a few questions myself more directed towards what i need to acheive.
Im currently building a ka rs turbo and need a tough durable seal or coat on the underside of the car aswell as a fresh paint coat inside the engine bay.
In order to tackle to the rust is it best to buy a spotblast gun from somewhere like machine mart with the grit as this will double up in cleaning parts such as the trailing arm and lower arms etc??? or is there a better option, if so where from and how much?
As for the underside, i am not going for bufty rather more a 'seal' that is durable especially during winter months. I have looked at stone chip, for all the underside and arches, as i also want to cover the sills and slighty up the side of the bodywork which will then need to be painted over the the car paint, will this be suitable? Whats the best and easiest way to clean the underside? or will stone chip 'stick' to it no probs? Is hammerite another option either on its own or over the stone chip??
Where can i obtain the gun and stone chip stuff? as the stuff machine mart sell (Tetraschutz) can not be overpainted.
For the engine bay could i spot blast tight areas to provide a rough surface for the primer to adhere to and then sand the rest??
I have a 50ltr compressor with a basic spray kit ( Air Hose and spray gun) - I cant not use 2 pac due to the fumes.
Im in the Surrey area
Any help much appreciated, as it will help clear up the muddle in my mind!!
Cheers Dan
